While the bike itself is of little interest to me, the way Honda have tuned the Gold Wing GL1800 is in my personal view ideal. In the 2018 Cycle World test, it produced 97.85 hp at 5500 rpm and 108.41 lb.ft. of torque at—wait for it—1210 rpm! It is designed to tolerate heavy loads from 850 rpm without detonation. Great motors and nearly maintenance free. Valves never need adjustment even at 90k miles. Only problem its in a 900 lb plus bike.

And as exciting as watching paint dry. Rode a buddy's GW a few years back. It reminded me of a electric motor ramping up down on a frequency drive. Just get it into high gear as fast as possable and roll on/off the trottle at any speed.

I have a GL1800/ champion trike, after looking at the graph. I see why you can take off from a stop in first second or third gear. It doesnt lug,and just torques away!
They truly are amazing motors, and my favorite for 2 up riding in comfort/security.

I recall in the owners manual it said you can put it in fifth gear at 30 mph. It was reliable steed. Just not suited for anything besides hard pavement especially two up and loaded.

There is a very tight, curvy mountain pass road nearby. Steep turns, first or second gear on a DR650, many are less than 15 mph turns. A friend says he rides it uphill in fifth gear on his Goldwing.

I have not ridden a GL1800, but the current generation (introduced in 2018?) is said to be a really good handler, up to sporty riding. Not ideal on gravel, but not unsuitable, either. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/T42bE9z6oqs

Now that’s just what I’ve been missing all along, a bike where I don’t have to “worry”about changing gear…
I can’t wait to get that little lever out from under my left foot.
Also the unbridalled joy at not having to listen to the sonorous melody of a Staintune reflecting from the rock walls of the Stelvio Pass, just the monotone whine of a Japanese car motor.
Not to mention the remote feeling of an engine that seems removed from your consciousness due to the complete absence of rhythmic feedback.
Jeeezzzz…
It’s almost as good as not being there at all.
Magic… :thumb:

Well good morning to you too Pete. Did a kangaroo pee in your cornflakes this morning or what?😂😂😂

Whoa......
Chop off four cylinders and have a neat, modern version of a 600cc BMW!
That would be a cool project bike!
I've wanted to find a cheap crashed Goldwing and make a little utility tractor out of it. But I suspect the electronics/CPU would make the project a huge headache.

Is this the real Huzo, or the AI version?
As soon as Honda adds the self-driving function to the Goldwing, they will sell like hotcakes!

Well good morning to you too Pete. Did a kangaroo pee in your cornflakes this morning or what?😂😂😂
NCDan,
Insulting the second favorite breakfast of manly men in Straya?
How dare you! - Imagine a Greta Thunberg voice....
First choice for breakfast in Straya is always meat though....

A hearty howdy doo to you too Dan, hope you’re doin’ fine…
No a Kangaroo didn’t pee in my Cornflakes…(it was a Wombat).
But somewhat tasty I’ll admit, thought of as a delicacy down these parts !
The salt reduces the cramping I sometimes suffer from.
Also who was that young go-getter who thought my comments were AI generated ? If I went looking for “digital enhancement”, it wouldn’t be from a lap top…!
Speaking of digital enhancement…
I went to a Proctologist (not a Proctor ologist), the other day asked him would he tape two fingers together for the examination..
“Why ?”… he asked
“Well” …I said..
“You’re a Doctor, I’d like a second opinion…” ! :whip2:

Well I have sat on the newer version GW but have yet to ride one
It has been said that it is the quintessential mile muncher especially for 2 up
I am seriously considering one with the DCT for just that purpose.
Spare me the negativity on the DCT, I’ve had 2 Hondas with DCT and for what it’s designed to do it works a treat
TEHO
YMMV
IMHO
That’s ll the acronyms I can think of…lol

That guy is rider!!! Hats off to him!

Matt does all kinds of crazy things. He is an amazing rider although crazy. That poor wing has been through all kinds of stuff. He has a Busa that has also been beat to death to say nothing of the Ducati he has turned into a snow machine.

Let's be fair, and IIRC, the Aryan's are credited with this delicacy!

In spite of his hairstyle, by every measure this guy is a man's man, or a biker's biker!
Those of us with the same DNA on both sides of our family tree salute you!!

It is not the bike, it is the rider
