Title: 1980 LM1 - CX100 for sale
Post by: Groover on August 11, 2015, 09:49:13 AM
I have no idea if this is a good deal or not, but I do know that the LM1s are sought after so maybe someone may be interested in this one. I'm on Ducpower.com's mailing list after buying some parts from them a while ago, and now I get emails with bikes, parts, etc. Usually they are Ducatis, but then a this LM1 popped up so I thought I'd post it here. They also have it listed on Craigslist or you can contact Ed Milich info@ducpower.com directly.

No affiliation here, just posting for others to investigate if interested.

Edit: I just read the ad again... Is this not a Lemans? Is CX-100 not the same as Lemans? All I know are G5's.. Ok, I'll go back to my hole now

It's a CX100 LeMans 948 motor, not as collectable as the 850's they say. But it is the last LeMans with the round head motor. That one makes mine look like an absolute CHERRY!!

Got it, now I know more than I did 10 minutes ago! Agreed on conditions. Seems perhaps (and going out on a limb here...) maybe the price could be lower to reflect conditions...

The bike is in front of Ed Millich's shop, if he did all the upkeep or this is even his own bike, I'd think the price would be hard to beat

I'll retract my statement about the price. I've never followed the LM market, just learning a bit in this thread.

"...clean CA title. has some back fees on it."

I'd contact Ed.

Premium price for a rather rough looking CX.

Yeah what's up with the 'back fees'??  would that be an issue if sold to an outside of CA buyer?

looks like sleeper to me..  a little elbow grease & paint I bet it would be a stunner

It started out as  CX100 but little still is a CX100.  Even the rims are not original. Gas tank cap missing cover, whole dash gone, no fairing, battery, different headlight, carbs, I could go on and on...........

Likely:

Title is clean, valid and unencumbered yet...

It has probably fallen out of valid registration and was not transferred to non-op plates leading to lapsed registration penalties.

Looks like Ed got ahold of it. It's a conglomeration. Not saying that's bad, but it is what it is.

As a 850 LM2 owner, that looks like a neglected POS.

I don't think anyone is suggesting a concours restoration...  But if you wanted a Tonti caferacer... this already has the powertrain you'd be looking for...  All it needs is cosmetics and cleaning and you would have a screamer. Most people building a 'custom' or a cafe racer do only cosmetic work anyway...  This would appear to be a race-inspired hop-up from a trusted source. Looks like a great jumping-off place to me.

I guess if you want an 80's fairing and high bars and weather protection and heated grips and a plug for your gps, you are out of luck on this one.

For track days or thrashing the canyons....  or fix it up and rule bike night at the hipster spot... You are 70% of the way there.

I would trust Ed's bikes have the minimals if you were looking for a jolt...

I don't think I would pay $5k for it... but if you could negotiate it down 15% I think it would be a great project.

Yep, to someone that's just looking for a Tonti hot rod, looks like just the ticket. May be a little on the pricey side but hey, you gotta start somewhere :whip2:

That has nothing on it to make it worthy of the name LeMans. None of the unique parts are there except the tank and what's left of the rear fender. I particularly like the way the rear tire is feeding rocks directly to the carbs. And it has been sitting quite a while according to the rust on the brakes.
And 5K with fees on the title?
I knew CX100 LeMans and you, sir, are no CX100 LeMans.

It does have screens on the velocity stacks, so the tire is feeding only coarse sand and smaller items into the carbs.

Price has gotta come down but it might make a nice bike to throw some air-tech bits at and make a race track clone out of... or an endurance race clone.

Sorry, but Ed deals in junk for the most part. He's honest about it. He'll say "More Ducati (or Guzzi) Junk just came in!"
When I bought the Bubs from him, I emailed him and asked if they were totally rusted out. You could see that they were pretty bad on the outside. He said, No. He was right. They were Bubs, and they were nasty, but they were Bubs, and they weren't totally rusted out on the inside.  I'd have given them to someone, but he has to make a living somehow..
Oh, they sound bitchin.

What Chuck said. I wouldn't confuse this offering with "Ed's" bikes.

I probably should have posted the entire email newsletter dealio. Here it is:

"Just in: A classic 1980 Guzzi CX100 cafe racer . This one has some nice period performance parts including a Veglia race tachometer, Bub exhaust, Koni shocks, and some Guzzipower performance parts. It runs very very strong,. I have a stack of receipts for motor and related work - it was recently refreshed after a long storage.  There is no crash damage- it has some great patina and was well kept. There are some California back fees on it, which only apply in the state of California. Price is $4900. Note: we are NOT parting this one....it's being sold complete! This one is too nice to part.

This is located in San Francisco. We can ship this crated to most major airports via forward air for $650"

Now THAT......is a LeMans! Beautiful.
Since I'm on a tirade anyway I will go on to say that just because someone has the money for something does not mean they will respect it or care for it. If that really ever was a LeMans it never deserved to be done that way.
Call me what you will, I think a thing of beauty like that should be cared for and maintained. And ridden like it was meant to be ridden. If you wad it up doing that, well that's the way any LeMans would want to go. Not as some rusty CL fodder.
Rant over. Maybe.

I got the notice, too.  Ed is 'flipping' it.  It's not one of his 'restorations'.  Pics seem deliberately not good, but from what I could tell it's a bitsa bike with clip-ons.

Like Chuck said, Ed's got to make a living as he's got kids to feed.  Flogging stuff on Ebay, CL helps pay the bills. It will make a nice beater for some hipster.  Later on , when he ( or she) invests in some red suspenders, the bike may get fixed up and look like some of the others on this forum

Thanks for the compliment Hunter, I have been enjoying that old bike since '89. Always puts a grin on my face

That is NOT a Bub exhaust, it's the original exhaust just like my `81 CX100 still has on it.
