The Genuine Scooter company is going to build a 400cc thumper powered restro standard, ala SR400, though, theres has electric start.

The engine looks like it could be a copy of the Honda GB500 (400 in other markets), or any number of their larger dirt-bike thumpers with twin exhaust ports.
The bike is priced about $1,000 less than the SR400, which, itself, is priced about $1,000 too high. Genuine's scooters, and now this motorcycles are manufactured by PGO in Taiwan, and of on par with Japanese manufacturers' quality. This bike should give the SR400 a run for its money.
Priced only $200 more than the Suzuki TU250X, and only weighing 24 lbs more than that bike, this would be a fantastic starter bike, or even just a lightweight classic styled bike for any rider.

I found that a little later and thought I edited my post (on my work computer), I'm thinking that I probably didn't click "Post".
In any case, these bikes are, mechanically, copies of the Honda GB500.

Jay , wonder if the hop up parts from the GB will fit ?

Knowing the Chinese copy machines, it is likely parts will interchange.

I'd like one of these retro-honda knock-off Sky Team thingy's if they ever make it to the US.

We just ordered a few of them. Phil can speak more on it b/c he's ridden one already, but I'm interested to see how these handle and hold up against the mainstream competition.

The frame is different, but the engine is a copy of the Honda RFVC.
-
It is almost good looking, but something is not quite right about the styling. It needs to be polished a little more. For example, the front fender supports look wonky. The frame triangle behind the engine has a weird shape. The exhaust has a few akward bends. The seat already has several wrinkles in the side panels. Basically it looks like a Chinese made machine.
I would pay $1,500 more if it was made by Honda, looked a little better, and used the actual Honda GB500 motor. Actually why not just bring back the GB500 similar to Yamaha bringing back the SR400.

Probably because , despite their appeal to some of us , they didn't sell very well .

True. The latest SR400 hasn't sold well either. So it will probably take another 35 years for Yamaha to try again.

It sold well enough for Yamaha to have them in the lineup again for 2016.

Is MASH really a subsidiary of a Chinese company? If so that's got to be a positive. I thought Mash started out as a European bike importer commissioning some restyled bikes, each model could potentially be from a different manufacturer, if the brand has any problems it could fold and a new brand be launched without baggage of dissatisfied customers. Don't make bikes, Don't design bikes, buy bikes in bulk with only cosmetic alterations for intended market. Worst of all world's. Second hand Moto Guzzi better in absolutely all respects!
-
I would buy the Kawasaki Ninja 300 over either the entry BMW or this bike....prefer the small twin, and very refined engineering of the proven Ninja design.

My thoughts exactly. In fact, I just bought, and am picking up a slightly used V7 Special for about what one of these Genuine/Mash/Shineray bikes would cost out the door!

That's what I did you won't regret it, and if you are unlucky with your Guzzi you have the benefit of it being a known quantity. People here will help you.
As for these imitators:

Interesting (to me anyway) how well my former MZ Silver Star 500 and current Moto Morini 350 K2 compare to all of these. The MZ had 31 bhp and weighed 350 lbs., averaged 60 mpg. The Morini is rated at 36 bhp, weighs the same 350 lbs. and so far has averaged 76 mpg. Either is far more desirable to me than any on that chart.
-
Well, the MZ line was something you can't find these days, a full size premium single, that I regret not purchasing when I had the chance.
