Ok ladies and gents. How good are you at the verbal arts? Are you literate and well read? How broad is your vocabulary?
Similes and metaphors are the topic.
My Guzzi is like.... (fill in the blank).
Example could be: my Guzzi is like an eager puppy ready to romp. Or, my Guzzi is like an antique wind up clock, ticks away, but often needs adjustment.
My Triumph is a contrast: my Triple is like a Klingon Warbird blowing into warp drive -- hang on for the hunt...
(I think I need a Klingon Empire sticker for the bike, would not that be fun!)
Give it a go. More examples so you get the concept clearly:
Here is an example from literature I like: 15. Camperdown, Copenhagen, Trafalgar these names thunder in memory like the booming of great guns. Mutiny on the Bounty, by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall
Cicero is one of my personal heroes, and a Roman, hence Italian, and likely would have ridden a Moto Guzzi small block: A room without books is like a body without a soul.
Einstein had it right: Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
J.K. Rowling has this to say: Once again, you show all the sensitivity of a blunt axe. -- reminds me of a lot of people.

I waiting for Pete Roper.

My Guzzi is like a box of chocolates. I never know what I'm going to get.
-
Go to Muzzi, Um? Ok that's a Spoonerism.
-
The Convert is truly a magic carpet ride! Never fast but deceptively quick...
-
My Norge is named Niccolo - like Machiavelli, he counsels me in the wise use of power!

"like a wind from Gelderland"
Reference anyone?

The LMIII is like a lovely Missouri mule, sometimes cranky but always runs best when heading back to the barn
-
Like a locomotive on the Rio Grande Railroad...headed for the mountains!
-
My T-3 is an in your face honest ride that demands interface in a physical way. in contrast my Norge is is a natural extension of my being...doing my will by telepathically.

The frequency of my beating heart as I fire up the Guzzi for an early morning romp
is inversely proportional to the number of Guzzi dealers I encounter on said ride.

a mule is far superior to a stallion so I ride Guzzi?

Big smiles for the similes.
You are doing great. My eldest daughter, the English Major, Summa Cum Laude and BF editor would be proud.
Did I mention there is a competition.
Yes, as in the coliseum. Gladiatorial verbosity wins the "Golden Goose Egg" award.
Competition closes whenever the poodles decide, and they make all final judgments.
Honor and glory can be yours.
Honor, like life, when once lost, never returns.

A Guzzi is more like a mule or a Morgan. More durable than a thorough bred horse like a Ducati.
-
Guzzi Haiku:
Boots, helmet, gloves and pants
Garage door opens quietly
Guzzi patiently awaits his rider
Dials sweep, twins fire, rumble and roll
My Guzzi is a thoroughbred, muscles twitching, ready to gallop, it pulls away from the pack, leans into the turn and heads for the open road…

I like mules!

A pet name for my LM IV - Rocinante - who knows that literary reference and its literal interpretation in Spanish?

Don Quixote's foremost steed

My Guzzi is like Chris Botti playing an accordion.
-
My Guzzi California is like Sophia Loren in her 40's. All the right curves and sexier for them!
-
My two Ambassadors are like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep going and going...
Lurking on Wildguzzi is like having lunch on the side porch of the Poor Farmer's Market in Meadows of Dan, VA. (You have to have "been there, done that" to understand what I mean).

In 1972 a tester with Motor Cycle News in the UK described the V7Sport as being like a racing rhino. Hence the name of my blog. When I ride mine, as I did today, I can physically feel what he meant.
Incidentally, I'm still trying to find a copy of that MCN test, either original or scanned for my site.

At the heart of every Guzzi lies a glowing ember from the fire Prometheus stole from the gods. The rumble released at the twist of a wrist is a mystery of chaos barely contained, an alchemy of engineering and art, of music and long forgotten magic, that propels you forward beyond yourself and all the artifice of modern daily life. A Moto Guzzi is a motorcycle. And a motorcycle is transcendence.

Reference anyone?
A questionable quote from an alleged Chaucer...
"Yes, behold my lord Ulrich, the rock, the hard place, like a wind from Guilderland he sweeps by blown far from his homeland in search of glory and honor, we walk... in the garden of his turbulence!"
And who, really, wants to follow someone 'in the garden of his turbulence'?

I prefer to think of it as more of a romantic (and maybe existentialist) allusion to Chaucer wrapped in a loose but fun and poignant pastiche!
And thanks for the correction on GUILDerland which in retrospect seems like a much better place to call home than GELDerland.
As for his garden of turbulence one COULD claim it means the calm of his wake.

A Guzzi is more like a mule or a Morgan. More durable than a thorough bred horse like a Ducati.
A Morgan is (also) a vehicle with a motorcycle engine.
A Guzzi is by some accounts a motorcycle with a tractor engine.
Guzzi's may be seen to socialize with Ducatis (horses), Morgans with cars (Donkeys)
It seems if the Guzzi is a Mule then the Morgan is a Hinny although if a guzzi engine is then fitted to a Morgan it may become more complicated?

Stay on target...
Poodles enjoy complexity.
Latin language encouraged and Italian...
My Guzzi is lento come una lumaca

Star wars allusion, right? :boozing:

Poodles asked me to bump this thread. They plan to award the coveted "Golden Goose Egg" for best simile later this week.
Note excellent musical entry by Not Fishing and my reply. Music works. So does art. And poodles love music. Even more they like food, tasty bits and such. They are very biased.
My Guzzi is like.... Volare...

Here's one for you chief...a little motivational poetry in the morning - see you Saturday
There once was a man from Sugar Land
Whose V7 was very Special indeed
He’d swan to the ocean on route 36
And fly back on his silver steed
Far and wide he hoped to ride
To the GRIT and Okie he cried
Gear strapped and bags put on
He disappeared over the horizon

Il mio Griso si comporta come un progetto di pesante cavallo italiano , muscolare, costante e si muove con convinzione
Google translator is grate for us who are language challanged.
My Griso behaves like a italian heavy draft horse, muscular, steady and moves with conviction

Paul,
You over estimate my long distance riding skills.
Ah, the Bard comes to mind. A favorite....
If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend:
if you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.
-
My Guzzi is like Washington, DC. You can throw all the money you want at it, but it still won't run just right :lipsrsealed:
-
My Guzzi is like a fine italian woman..... beautiful, spirited, classy, treat her right and she purrs... treat her badly and she'll toss you in a heartbeat.. !
-
All,
One last bump per poodle nudge of noses. Contest closes Sunday afternoon. Then your entry will be weighed on the scales against the feather of Maat.
My Guzzi glides like the Pharoah's chariot, across the Nubian plains, towards the Golden hills.

Damn. I wish I could find my tee shirt or remember (was it Father Guzzi Obrien) that had the "Owning a Guzzi is like having the clap....
It was priceless.
