Dyno chart of my 99 EV. Punched stock exhaust, and partly opened airbox with KN filter. A german ecu chip..
As you can see the power drops way to soon. Any idea what to do ? Thinking of removing rest off airbox top?..Drill holes in rear of exhaust pipes.?
Do not want to spend money. :boozing:

I think that is pretty typical. I put on replica Dunstall Mufflers on my 98 EV and got rid of the dip in the midrange. I also installed a Power Commander. I was able to get good power to 7K but then it started to drop off. I think it would take a cam swap to be able to rev all the way to 8K like my 850 LeMans does.
The Power Commanders were custom made by Todd at Guzzitech. No Longer available but maybe there is something today to replace it. Your '99 has a P8 computer and not many options out there to tune it.

Actually looks fine to me, for an EV. How much time do you plan to run over 6K?
Probably the ignition is signing off, as it is a cruiser engine. A V11S ECU would likely push it some.
Much more than that it would be cheaper to swap it for a faster bike.

Thinking back when we were all trying to improve driveabilty someone discovered the map stops around 7K so none of the chips or a PC would help beyond that. The guys at Westmoreland, Hunchy and his son the cruiser hop up guys, did try putting a sport 1100i computer in the EVs and were able to rev past 7K.
As for wanting to run over 6K, its a Guzzi and handled like a sport bike, why not? I spent many a mile running with my sport bike friends and even did a couple of track days on my EV.

Normal torque dip around 4k. I did get better top end power and overall smoothness on the Mille with a port and polish, pods, and Lafraconi's but it is still no Sport or V11. For that you need $$. I suggest a port and polish as my experience is that the intake valve seats are not blended properly to the port and restrict upper rpm power production. (I did my own work so no money spent, just time while on vacation with a dremel, some various burrs and machinists rouge.)

OK before a certain Ozzie sees this . This is a ditch pump motor , what are you expecting to gain ? Kind of like an old flat head 6 cylinder 1950 Plymouth I had in 1970 , drilling holes in the exhaust and air filter housing will just make it louder .

6k peak and over rev to 7k+ and 64 hp
I think that's about right. Actually seems pretty healthy at the rear tire to me. I'd only consider a custom tune if had some surges or flat spots but the curve looks pretty smooth.

I think it was actually another certain Ozzie (name???) who posted a 10HP gain in the midrange with Dunstall pipes. Me and few folks who rode my bike would say this is not far off.

Yeah , but that required spending money :laugh: My old Jackal has Staintunes , some say worth a few Shetlands , others say they are just expensive gee gaws . Dunno , dyno runs are kind of abusive, and with 130K miles on her , well , she is gonna do what she is gonna do .

Ignore the dyno run. Take a piece of tape and put it on your throttle assembly. Make and index mark at fully close, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 and w.o.t. place a sewing pin in the rubber grip at the fully closed mark. Go for a ride. You will notice that any throttle opening beyond 3/8 is more than necessary. I was quite surprised at how little the throttle has to be opened. Sometimes it is not about h.p or torque.

I think at least some of the 99 have a p15 computer, I know my 99 Bassa did.

The Bassas got the P15 but I think the EVs still had P8s for a couple of more years. My Repro Dunstalls were 100 bucks a pair. Not free but close.

My stock 98 EU EV will run up to 125 mph. That 200k/ph at 4ķ rpm in 5th gear. What more does anyone want? Plenty fast and strong for me.
'Course, I ain't pulling a trailer like I did back home😊

It is suposed to work with KN filter and open exhaust.
Therefore my questions.
The MC goes to redline without problem.
But other charts I have seen, show a max hp at ca. 7000 rpm.(should be close to 70 hp according to the dyno man.)
( my previous mc, a Kawasaki had 148 rwhp, not looking for that on the EV, but better than today numbers)

sorry, but you're not saying that your EV will run 125mph at 4k rpm? The bike should be running about 70mph with stock gearing. My guess is that an EV might hit 115 with no bags or windshield and laying on the tank. I suppose 125 isn't out of the question but certainly at 7500+ 6500 rpm.

FWIW I've seen a GPS reading of 118mph on my cali, (obviously on unrestircted autobahn)... I think I was getting up near 5k in top, but was kind of focused on other things at that moment in time so I can't be certain.
I'd have thought 7.5k in 5th would be pretty much light speed, isnt there a way of calculating theoretical top speeds through the gearing??

Yes . And if anyone can get an 8/33 geared 2 valver to turn 7.5 K RPM's in fifth gear I want them to tune my bike .

If you wanted more top speed & acceleration you got a Le Mans drive train. Eagan put a sport motor in his Jackal.
My `87 949cc LM IV dynoed@ 61 hp, had titanium pushrods, Uni filters, 7/33 rearend, did 139 mph w/130/90-18 rear tire. It was plenty fast enough for me to the point I sold it before I lost my drivers' license.

I think at least some of the 99 have a p15 computer, I know my 99 Bassa did.
The Bassa and Jackel had the 15M a couple of years before the EV 'used up stock' and switched.

At the dyno, flat out at 8000 rpm in 5. gear the speedo needle was pointing strait down at the eagle. 250-260 km.
In the real world 200km is possible, I think?

The first time I rode it up to an indicated 200kph I was looking straight ahead. A member here asked what the rpms were and I said I'd check. Ran it up to an indicated 200bkph again and checked the tach. 4k rpm. Could probably get higher numbers running in 4th. This on the A8 between Kircheim and Nurtingen.

5k in top gear on an EV? maybe 90 100mph
118 mph is more than 6k rpm , closer to 7

Nick what other mods were done to the bike. Many here poo poo Power Commanders but I am believer. My EV never ran right including trying two different 3rd party chips until I installed the PC.

:laugh: :laugh: According to the GPS on John's tigger , the Jackal will run at least 110 MPH . That's pushing the Aerofoil and pulling the bags in a crosswind , uphill :grin:

RPM at 60 mph (want to keep this to a sensible rpm): 3013 (pretty low, even for this low rpm engine)

I stand corrected, faster than I thought. I am either going faster than I guessed or my tach is as far off as my speedo. I would guess it's the later. Everyone knows that I am a slow poke.

Just the Mistral slip-on pipes, H pipe in the middle and K&N air filter. That's basically it.
