Centauro front brake question

 On my 97 the front discs have a lot of side to side play on the rings where my EV doesn't. It stops fine just rattles when you are pushing it around and turn the handle bars. Are they (i forgot the correct name) rings that the disc floats on a wear item or do you replace the whole rotor assembly?

The stock disks on a Centauro are the same Japanese (Fuji) semi-floating type that were used on the EV, and do not typically rattle as you describe.  Full floating disks, for example Brembos of the same 90s era, do rattle.  Are the disks visually the same?  If so, and if they are the stock type for either bike, the normal solution would be to replace both discs, the whole assembly.  EBCs have worked fine for me on a couple of Ducatis using the same Fuji disk from new, and they are relatively imexpensive.

 The retainers (pins, whatever they are called) have wave washers on them to prevent them from rattling. Maybe they have been modified.

 Doubt they where modified. My late friend Ron who own the bike kept records of everything he did to it down to the date he change the batteries in the flashlight he kept under the seat and beside changing pads that's about it for brakes.

You win! Rotors in your video are Brembo (cast iron?) Floating rotors and they are supposed to rattle. Not original to the Centauro but they were standard on Ducati 900SS-SP and probably other Ducs also. Better braking power and not as likely to warp.

FWIW my stock Centauro has the same rotors but they don't rattle like that

As posted above and in a Guzzi context, the rotors on the bike are Daytona RS cast iron Brembo full floating rotors, also fitted to high spec Ducatis and Laverdas of the 90s.  They rattled a lot even when new, and were also very expensive.  They have relatively soft aluminum carriers so the circumferential clearance at the pins tends to increase as they wear and this is more important than the lateral clearance they came with from new, and which makes them rattle. A guy in New Zealand made up replacement carriers made from stronger 7075 Aluminum, and given the very high performance of these rotors they make sense to some people with partially worn disks of this type, although at a pretty high price.  I bought a set and they still rattle as they did when new but the new carriers do not wear, nor do the original cast iron disks, and the bike stops like crazy.

These were the most desirable rotors for Italian bikes of the era, and when for a short period Laverda sold them as a stock replacement part at a very reasonable price, my local dealer bought out the US Laverda distributor stock immediately, mainly for sale as a Ducati upgrade and also for a few Guzzis because the Fuji disks fitted to all the brands were cheap and warp prone.  Pretty soon Laverda figured out what they were doing and raised the price.

No, they are not stock Centauro rotors... and if for some reason that and the rattle bothers you, let me know and I’ll be very happy to take them off your hands

 I have another set of rotors so they must be the stock ones. I have to say it's braking is really really good, better then my Buell's. I guess they stay on.

The stock SS rotors were noted for getting contaminated spots, so called 'warped' rotors. I suspect there aren't many Centauros with original rotors.

I’ve seen a lot warped like a potato chip, as much as 1/8 inch.

The rotors shown in the video were not stock on any Centauro.  The stock Japanese manufactured items looked like this, and had stamped carriers with round holes, stainless disks and no Brembo marking. They were sold by Brembo in order to offer a very inexpensive option to manufacturers.





In comparison, the cast iron Brembo disks in the video look like this, and had machined from solid carriers with round and triangular holes, cast iron disks and a Brembo logo on the carrier.  More info at the link, if you need it.

The first time I pushed my Daytona and heard that rattling, I was like WTF is that?

 The other set of rotors (new) I have are Brembo but I found them on MG cycle web site and they are just the standard replacement ones.
