I wold never buy a bike on a site like this one where you take the word of the seller that the bike runs as good as it looks.In this case a premium price is justified as we know the guy who built it.

Ok, I've been a small block guy for a long time, and I *like* em. If it was a Mark 3 or better yet a Monza  I'd considerably raise the bar. I would be surprised if a Mark 2 brings over $3500. The market will tell all, though.

I’m not unhappy.  I cleared about 1,000 after parts and it looks like a very nice gentleman got the bike.

The kicker is that I’d been corresponding before the auction ended with a museum owner who collects bikes and planes who emailed me tonight saying he was trying to bid roadside on his phone and couldn’t get his bids through. He said he would have gone to 6,000.  Oh well.

Funny, there is a v50 on CycleTrader…calling it a Monza, but doesn’t seem to be to me…can anyone tell the difference? Ventura CA, for $4000

They did not have Monza's in 1978. Nice V50, real low miles. Early ones are getting very rare.

My guess is he posted Monza so everyone looks.

I corresponded with the seller of the 'Monza'. Said it was his father's old bike and Cycle Trader had only 1 model listed under V50 and it was 'Monza'.
My first thought was that he intentionally picked Monza but after communicating with him, he seems honest. Didn't have the heart to tell him he's priced it way too high; figured he will find out on his own.
