V7 Sport cam gear removal

Is there a trick to keeping the cam gear from spinning while removing the 26mm nut?  Assuming I've already removed the crank nut and rods so can’t lock the rods.  Do I jam the gear?  As always, thanks to the forum gurus. Ben

 Do you have access to an air impact wrench and a block of wood to jam into the gear and the case to prevent it from spinning ?  Peter

make a tool to fit in the holes,
dont be tempted to block the gear on the teeth with something solid.
i've seen two gears that cracked, causing the gear to break, making a mess of the engine
Happened twice to the same guy, ( friend on mine)
he used to torque the gear down by fitting a piece of metal between the teeth of the cam gear and the crankshaft gear.

I have that tool in my tool box.  I must have bought it from MG Cycle years ago and forgot about it. Duh!  Love you guys.

This was SOP in the aircraft shop where I worked. We used a piece of aluminum. No impacts in the shop just armstrong power. Never damaged a gear. I still have my piece of aluminum, it has a lot of teeth marks in it.

I see you have the proper tool. But in a pinch...

Not sure if your bike has the timing hole on the bell housing. If it does, you can also use a large screwdriver to jam the ring gear teeth. Helps to have someone hold the screwdriver, but can be done by yourself.

Thanks Tom. Ring gear, flywheel, crank gear and rods are already out.  The tool worked like a charm.
