2008 Breva 750.







It's the connector between the alternator and the regulator. The problem has been talked about on this forum several times and Brad The Bike Boy has a good page on it here: https://www.bikeboy.org/chargingsystemdiagnostic.html

I didn't read any of these until after I had broken down.

The spade connectors and some of the wire corrodes and stops conducting electricity. I had no apparent problems or early warning signs. The bike started and ran beautifully for a 30km ride. When I went to start it again the battery was clearly flat. It showed about 10v but the bike started easily with a jump start. A smarter person would have noticed that the volts didn't go up when the bike was revved. I got about 5km before it stopped again.

Check your connectors.

I've sang the praises of Caig DeOxit for years. And years. It falls on deaf ears, mostly, but I can't begin to number the things I've fixed with it. Expensive, and worth every penny.

I had that on my '09 V7.  Fortunately I have a voltage gauge, and that gave me an early warning.  The bad connector is in the harness along the main frame, directly under the fuel tank.  The factory put out a notice about the problem connector, but their "fix" is to zip tie the connector tight, to stop arcing of the loose connection.  Not sufficient.  I ended up soldering the joint.

Some people would smear insulating dielectric grease on that and think they helped it.

One of Dorcia's friends husband had a dead mobility scooter. Couldn't find *anyone* to work on it. Squirted the ignition switch, and it came to life and gave an error code for the reversing switch. Squirted that, and it's been running ever since.  Got a filet dinner out of that one..but fixing my Mondo expensive TIG welder was the last big one.
