VW/Scout have invested billions in Rivian.  VW was having big software issues, Rivian is a power house in the type of software VW needs, and VW in turn  gives Rivian much needed scale to drive their purchasing costs down.   If you look at the Scout next to a Riven RS1 squint just a little, and you won't be able to tell a difference.   Not implying that's anything but a good thing for both companies.

The Scout and Rivian are completely different vehicles. Different batteries, different platforms. The Scouts are a body on frame affair with solid rear axle and front/rear lockers. They will due to Rivian/VW partnership undoubtedly share some components, but according to https://insideevs.com/news/739419/scout-rivian-design-volkswagen/ they are different. Can't escape the similarities though, you can only do so much with square boxes.

Will be interesting to see how things develop. Earliest production is supposed to be 2027-2028. They just broke ground for the new factory in SC.

Silhouette similarities are coincidental.  Rivian is unibody.  Scout is body on frame.

VW/Scout is accessing software from Rivian, but the two vehicles' hardware is not interchangeable. 

They're two different takes on the segment.
