1400 Switch Gear Update

The RH switchgear on my 2016 Eldorado has now been superseded to the updated RH switchgear on the later model 1400's. The issue is the original RH switchgear (2D000229) has the Cruise Control on the RH side. The updated RH switchgear (2D000673) does not have the Cruise Control button.

Apparently, the only actual option is to upgrade both the RH and the LH switchgear which has the Cruise Control on the LH side. Or, find someone with an original RH side switchgear.

I don't need new switchgear. My Eldorado only has 3,000 miles on it. But, the original switchgear seems like the cheapest Chinese junk switchgear Piaggio could source. I seems like it could give up early.

Has anyone been through needing to update to the later 1400 switchgear? I'm 'guessing' that if I upgraded both sides, they's still plug in and everything would work.

Is that true?

If Google AI is to be believed, RH updated switchgear 2D000673 does in fact have the cruise control function and is compatible with a 2016 Eldorado. Plus it retains the DRL function. Guzzi also made a matching LH side under item number 2D000672. This LH side also retains the heated grip function. Both of these item numbers are supposed to plug and play into the existing 2016 wiring harness without issue.

The reason for the change according to Google AI? The seam molds were changed and a seal was added to prevent water intrusion into the original switchgear which caused corrosion issues.

I had a 2016 Audace. The cruise on mine was on the right side. I hated it there as the throttle was so sensitive that it was hard to set the exact speed desired. The button was kind of recessed which made it even worse. I always thought that that was the reason the cruise button was moved to the left side on the 2017 models. If there were an up or down speed button it would have been no big deal but it was a set and done. My '26 Special is back to the cruise button on the right side but the button is much easier to reach and use.

Yes, the one ‘nit’ I have regarding my 2016 Eldorado is the switchgear. It feels as low budget as Piaggio could possibly find. I use my left hand to set the cruise button on the RH switchgear.

Mark,  you also have to change the demand sensor for throttle to work then a late map. Will the dealer up there do it for you?

Only MG would  put cruise control on the throttle side controls

I did the same thing. I should do the same thing on my V7 although the button is larger and closer to the grip. On the Audace the button was also recessed making it impossible to acuate with gloves.

My Eldorado has the GTM PC-V fueling system and a full GTM exhaust system. Both are absolutely perfect IMHO. The map GTM put into the PC-V works perfectly. It’s also matched to their exhaust system. I’ve only ridden one other 1400, a box stock 2014 CA Touring. The OEM fueling on that bike was horrendous and soured me on the 1400 line. Then I read every post I could find on the subject. There were three black Eldorados available when I bought mine. The GTM fueling system addressed one of the two major issues I had with the 1400. The GTM exhaust system addressed the second. I hated the OEM exhaust note. I found it as embarrassing as the meep meep OEM horn note. Plus it also had most of the OEM accessories I wanted.

I did buy a demand sensor to have on my parts shelf should that need arise. After having my local Cleveland, TN dealer reset the fault codes, I’ve had zero SERVICE light issues. It’s been perfect in dozens of starts and about 1300 miles.

Although I’m still a couple weeks away from being able to ride again having full left knee replacement a month ago.

My Victory has the cruise controls on the RH side and they work perfectly. Easy to get to without issue. The Guzzi recessed button was simply a dumb choice on their part. It ‘may’ have been better had they switched the position of Hazard button and the Cruise button.

Well, Google AI is most certainly a crap shoot. I much prefer Grok. I have seen both the 2D000672 and 2D000673 for sale online. The RH side will not accommodate the 2016 throttle cables. Plus the RH side has Mode and the LH side has Cruise. So, plug & play seems like it wouldn’t work either.

To make matters worse, Piaggio also lists the updated RH switchgear, item 2D000673, as ‘New Cruise’. So, it seems, they may have two distinct parts under the same item number.

The original LH side for the 2016 is still available from Piaggio. But, if they actually did made a new style RH side, then they’d need a matching LH side as they look quite different.

If anyone needs a RH replacement, perhaps used is the only option.

I don’t really blame Piaggio because my Eldorado is 10 model years old. They moved on from any 1400 support years ago. But, superseding to a part that just wasn’t designed to work is quite a lazy approach.
