My kingdom for an O-ring!

The O-ring on my screw-in dipstick is broken on my 2014 V7 Special. I could not find a replacement in the plumbing department or at Canadian Tire.

Can I expect that the O-ring will be sized in metric or imperial?

Where the heck can I find a replacement?

Good sources for odd o-rings include specialty hardware stores (the kind contractors go to), air conditioning supply houses (HVAC, like building air conditioning systems), and places that make or sell custom hoses (hydraulic, air pressure, etc.).

You didn't mention where in Canada you are, but if you're near a major centre you should be able to find a source. Don't be afraid to call a local HVAC contractor and ask them where they get theirs!

If you must, you can get a larger one and cut a little piece out of it to make it fit proper.

Use a tiny amount crazy glue on one end - the squarer and cleaner the cut the better the results ... practice a bit first ... its EASY!

Size is 28.24 mm id x 2.62 mm thickness.  If all else fails, the MG part number is GU90706281.  Advice:  wherever you find it, buy two.

I do like the look of those Dinky guages although thought the purpose was more to tell you when you oil was warmed up. On a Guzzi though I Guess You know that from the feel of the gear shift.

Yes, I suppose it's odd that I didn't. I would turn to the dealer if I had no luck elsewhere, but I thought my prospects would be better if I just went to an industrial o-ring supplier. I suppose I was afraid that the dealer wouldn't stock such a small item, and that their recourse would be to have an o-ring shipped from Italy!

 Punch a hole in a piece of old innertube and stretch it over the plug. Screw the plug into the hole.  use a sharp blade to cut away any

This reminds me of "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", where "John" is horrified at the suggestion that he should use a shim made from a beer can on his fancy BMW. I suppose I fall more into the "beer can / inner tube" camp than the other.

By the way, can you get inner tubes with the MG logo on it? Preferably a gold eagle on a red background? That would be nice...

Just went through my new to me '97 Centauro. Curtis had everything I needed including patience & an always positive tone. Got it to me quick enough. Americans are the only culture that stand in front of a micro-wave & scream "HURRY UP!!!!" I use to train staff to understand that a consumer/patient can go anywhere & get what they wanted. The ONE thing we could control was how we treated them.

Redline on the thermo is 300*F.  After a decent ride, I check out the temp when I get off the bike.  Usually the needle is in the red.  The thing is made in China, so who knows how well it's calibrated.  All I do know is I don't have to worry about the stick flying out.

Stick it in some boiling water and you'll have a pretty good idea how accurate it is. You'd rather not know how hot engines run any more.. at least I don't.  I just use premium synthetic oil and forget it.
As far as buying an o ring from the dealer? Seriously? My closest dealer is Jim at Rose Farm.. and I doubt he'd want to be bothered to send me something I could go to the hardware and get for 59 cents.
