Ethanil not ethanol
« on: September 22, 2015, 08:23:40 PM »
It appears only to be available in UK.  Anyone know if it's real or just a snakeoil fix to remove ethanol from fuel???  Sure sounds good but how do you dispose of the removed ethanol?   Any info out there?

It's not snake oil, it's just removing most of the ethanol by adding water and forcing phase separation and settling. The trick would be making up for the octane rating drop after the ethanol is settled out.

Also, the fuel would lose its ability to hold water in suspension until it's burned. Water would just settle in the lowest parts of the fuel system and cause rust or ice plugs... just like the old days.

Thanks Steve.  Guess I'll keep on stopping by the airport and getting AvGas with lots of octane, a bit of lead and no ethanol.

Low lead AV fuel in the States actually has lots of lead in it compared to traditional leaded gasoline. I am not sure how much ethanol is in your fuel but the 10% in the States hasn't negatively effected any of my bikes,,,.well other than fuel economy.

Lots of octane and high levels of lead is not the best combo for your Guzzi.

If you want to saturate your fuel with water, and at the same time lower its octane number, that's your business, but I much prefer to leave it, with its ethanol content, as it comes out of the pump.  It's true, however, that Ethanil is a cute name.

Mr Bell , what model of motorbike are you riding ? You probably don't need the octane , and lead isn't good for modern engines.

Dusty, I'm riding a '75 Ducati 860 GT.  The Guzzi ('78 G5) is a long way from running though I had planned to put AvGas in it, also.  Am I reading my replies correctly in that 10% ethanol pump gas is better than AvGas?  ..........Jack.

Av gas isn't made for auto/bike engines which idle, vary the rpm, etc. Avgas is made for engines that normally stay at a set rpm and not a high rpm at that. It has a completely different additive package than mogas.

Any opinions on the 104 Octane additive and pump ethanol gas?  I've been adding Lead substitute to my Eldo's gas.
