01 EV-Any Problem going from 140/80-17 to 130/90-17?

Wondering if anyone who has actually used a 130/90-17 rear in lieu of the specified 140/80-17 on an EV has had any problems.  Also, have you changed the front to a different size?

Right now I have a 100/90-18 front that I like instead of the spec 110/90-18...easier turn-in.

Current shoes are ME880 F&R, thinking of going to Shinko 230 Tourmasters

The widest rim width for a 130/90-17 is 3.5".  I believe your rear rim is wider than that.  You could put a 150/70 rear tire on and that would lower your overall gearing by 250 rpm.

I have a bike w/a 3.5" x 17" rear rim  that started w/a 150/70 rear tire that was geared too low for my liking.  1st I put on a 140/80 rear and then a 130/90 rear and that changed the gearing 500 rpm, the equivalent of another gear.

I believe the earlier EVs have 3.5" rear rims but yours is wider.

A 150 won't fit an 01. 140 barely fits. Many go to the 130 on the 98 - 01 Californias.

 Think the rim width on my '01 Jackal is the same , have been running a 130 for years , better turn in .

There is very little tire width difference between a 140-150 tire.  It varies a little from 1 design tire to another also.   I've been studying these tire dimensions for over 15 years.

 Right now the stock 110 , but have also used the 100 . Actually , the effects of running a 130 on the rear has a greater effect than running a 100 on the front .

I ran a 130 on the rear of my Jackal, and kept the stock 110 up front.

Ironically I went from a 150 to a 140 on the rear of the Sportster (and it was a noticeable difference, it broke over into the turns quicker), though even more ironically I went from a 100 to a 110 up front (but I balanced that effect by raising the forks in the trees slightly and raising the rear).

In all cases I'm talking Metzelers, including ME 88, ME880, and ME888.

  Ray , just noticed that you asked about running a 90 aspect ratio tire . I also mounted a 130/90 rear, make sure that none of your wiring is hanging low , don't ask me how I know

 Moved it temporarily , although at my next tire change will try to place it back to stock . The whole problem may well have been coincidental , haven't checked as well as I should have .

on the new V7 I just might go to the 130/90 rear next time instead of the 130/80. then use the 100 on the front of both. that way I will only need one set for both bikes.

If your V7 has a 17" rear rim I went from a 130/80 to a 130/90-17 on my 750 Breva and it works fine and lowered my rpms by 200 in top gear.   That's why I made the switch + so I had more tire choices.  Have a Shinko touring tire on there now.

On my 2001/EV I have used more 130/tires than 140. Work well!!!

Which bike was it that Vasco used to be so emphatic about that a smaller tire worked so much better than the stock size?
