We had a discussion in the summer about Bluetooth in the helmet, and I decided on the Uclear HBC200 internal headset with boomless mic. I got it installed today, but not tested yet. Here's how it went.
The internal padding needs to be removed to expose the foam cheek pieces. There is a single screw in the collar of the helmet, at the rear. Same allen size as the sacred screw. remove that and the plastic collar pops out (tab and hole) bringing the inner lining with it.
There are three pop-out rivets in the cheekpieces that allow the entire lining to be swung out of the way. It does not need to come loose at the brow.
The cheekpiece foam slides out.
The speaker/mic holes are already formed in the cheek foam, but they are slightly small for the pods and don't have relief for the microphone snouts. I carved them large enough to hold the pods securely with a common knife. No big deal.
With the pods pressed into their holes I routed the wires around the collar area and brought the usb connection out the oem cable hole, just behind the visor control. I had to shave the hole a tiny bit for the usb plug to pass through.
Reassembly of the interior was literally a snap (ok --several snaps). The entire operation took about half an hour.
The result is a clean install - cable as short and unnoticeable as possible, and the control unit is convenient to my left hand. The control unit is the only indication there is a headset installed. there is no visible mic and no visible speakers or wire.
I will try the unit tomorrow. Cell service sucks here and I couldn't get a signal to try the mics. Speakers seem good.
