Battery Bracket for Tonti Frames
« on: November 09, 2017, 09:50:51 PM »
I am looking at putting a smaller battery in my 1976 LeMans, and see that Harper's sells a bracket for the Tonti framed bikes to hold an Odyssey PC545.
Info found here:  http://www.harpermoto.com/pc545-conversion-battery-bracket-for-tonti-frames.html
Has anybody used this bracket?
I see the reference to it attaching to the sidecover bracket, but I am not sure how that works.
Any comments on how easy it is to install and uninstall the bracket?

While I am working the battery area, I would really like to get the seat right out of the way.  It pivots up, but it is still in the way.  Should all the wiring to the rear fender, brake lights, and rear turn signals easily disconnect from the bike so the seat/rear fender can be totally removed?  It's a PITA working around it.

Sidecover bracket installs with a couple of nuts and bolts. You may have to drill a hole in it to use this (depending on the year or side). The 850T and tonti's with tool boxes will require you to bake a bracket, easy enough with a piece of flat stock.

I have Harper’s bracket on both my old LeMans’ works great. You do have to drill a hole in the bracket under the side cover for one bolt. It makes room for a bank bag with a few tool shop.

What works is to put in a 680 battery with some homemade shims on one or both sides to compensate for the narrower than stock width  and use the stock strap on top. Simple and costs nothing.
