That's the early, light, fracture prone, stamped item.

Yes, that's the "light" flywheel, but it can be made serviceable by applying a bead of weld or brazing the seam between the center bolt flange and the bowl itself. This seam is visible in the 2nd and 3rd photos from the left.....I had this done and it lasted 30k miles until I sold the bike. Original without the brazing fractured at 17k, and the fracture will occur at that seam.

And the price seems high for this risky version, most are almost give-away, if you can find them. A later heavier version that won't require reinforcement would probably cost less.

I rode my buddy Leo's '76 Convert with the light "flywheel" and my '76 with the heavy flywheel back-to-back once. Really couldn't tell a whole lot of difference. Maybe slightly quicker acceleration and a bit more engine braking effect, but nothing real noticeable.

Yes, but unless you are a nut like me building "the worlds fastest Guzzi automatic"(TM) for land speed racing, who cares.

I visited El Mirage (the smaller red headed step child of Bonneville) in 2015 on a rental harley. A friend from LA was running, and I was hooked. It had miles of hot rods, quite the scene. The SCTA runs both El Mirage and Bonneville speed trials (same rules). Unless you need a long course, (and on my 142 MPH ex pro-twins racer, I didn't), I see no reason to go the the salt. It is dying, being mined out of existence. It is corrosive. I own a ranch 18 miles from El Mirage. After running all 6 events there in 2017, I got a job nearby and moved out in 2018. I was able to run the last 2 events of the year in '18, going 114 on my eldovert. I have since retired, and back in virginia, but still have the ranch, and plan to make it back in '20 with a hot cam and bigger carbs. visit: http://www.scta-bni.org/

Sweet! Many years ago I was building one of my Converts for more power. I bought a lightened Convert flywheel from Moto International that looked just like the one in this video. If I didn’t need it to go into the bike I would have hung it on the wall as art. Those were some fun times. Did it make a difference in performance? Sure it did, but likely only because I knew it was their and what I paid for it.
