Monster LEDs

I am considering replacing the halogen bulbs in my Monster's headlight with LEDs. Went over to Ducati.ms and posted the question but got no response. That place doesn't seem to have the level of traffic that we enjoy here. Any recommendations/cautions? There isn't a lot of space in the headlight shell behind the bulbs. Some of the emitters I looked at on the innanet have long extensions on the backs of them and they don't look like they would fit in the shell.

I think you'd be better off replacing the entire headlight unit.  Search 7" LED headlamp on Ebay and you'll find lots of choices.

Just sticking an H4 replacement LED into the OEM reflector will not net very good results.

This subject has been discussed here quite extensively.  You should be able to search up the threads.

Without knowing what bulbs it uses, I can't really recommend anything.

It's not a normal 7" round headlight.

Well, the first time wasn't exactly an OEM reflector, but was an aftermarket Hella H4 reflector. The second was the V7 Stone. Both have/had nice wide beams of light with no dark spots, easily the equal to the JW Speaker LED sealed unit in my Convert. Results with other bulbs were not nearly as good.

I put a Safego LED in my CSC 250, is the same dimensions as a halogen h4, and makes far more light.  It was $38 bucks a year ago when I bought it, I now seem them advertised for about $10!   Has worked great no issues what so ever.

Same bulb but half price (actually you get two for $51) from Amazon. (I have both original and Amazon versions.) Happy with light pattern. Brighter than H4 and no rear protrusion issues. Wonder how long that microscopic cooling fan will last?  Did have to open up hole on Hella reflectors to fit this bulb. 3 minutes with a Dremel Tool and sanding drum. Plenty of material available in reflector opening so no strength compromise. Did not touch standard bulb nest in reflector so return to stock bulb is no issue.

A friend tried a pair of the cheaper ones and had one fail almost immediately, the other about six weeks later. The one from ADV Monster has been in my V700 for nearly a year and is still working fine. I can hear the cooling fan spinning up like a tiny turbine every time I turn the headlight on. 

No alteration of the Hella reflector was necessary - "plug and play". On the Stone I removed a "filler ring" held on by two screws and then it fit in perfectly.

When I installed a Safego in a customer's '02 Special Sport, I did need to Dremel away some casting flash on the reflector opening for it to fit.

Running the 3 units for about a year now. No problems with any of them. (Including a cross country round trip on the Mictuning unit)

Holding the two units side by side there is no discernible visual difference. Doesn't mean the internals are identical.

Wouldn't be surprised to find that ADV was buying the Mictuning units and marking them up 100 %.

Charlie,     Thanks so much for doing the real world testing on these and other items,then taking the time to share the results on what works and what doesn't.

It will save me and a few others I'm sure, the major hassle of trying to figure out what actually works while wading through hundreds of options on line.

Like some Guzzis, it appears there are three bulbs, one for low beam (H7 type) another for high beam (H1) and a small one for park/city light. I don't have any experience with LED replacements for either of those types.

Perhaps something like this would work for the H1?

I posted my experience with LEDs in the previous post about them. I had very good results replacing the H4 bulb in my Cal with the ADV Monster Native H4R2. Same beam and spread, just much brighter.
My Monster uses two, an H7 lowbeam and an H1 highbeam, like Charlie said.
I took the plunge today and ordered the H7 and H1 emitters from these guys; https://ledlightstreet.com/. $50 shipped, we'll see.

I have a Monster 796, same headlight as your 1100 Evo.

It was a tight squeeze, but, I got 'em in.

It now throws WAY more light on the road than it did with the halogen bulbs.    The beam pattern is OK, not great, but, that's not the bulb's fault, as it is pretty much the same beam pattern as it was with the halogens.

I don't usually ride this bike at night anyway, and was mostly going for the "be seen" factor.   The 25 (low) or 50 (low+high) watts power savings is nice too, as I know I can run heated gear w/o worrying about charging.

I used the"Native" based on Charlie's recommendations ,and have been very happy with it. Currently resides in my Cal II convert headlight, and the light output is great. Its been over a year ,and the tiny fan is still churning away!  A bit pricier than the others, but its Good stuff !
