V85TT questions

Hi Folks,  I just recently entered the world of Moto Guzzi by buying a 2020 V85TT. I am wanting to add some electrical accessories including a fuse block to power them. Right off the bat I am having difficulty removing the tank covers. I don't want to use too much force. I notice a lower mounting bolt under the panels and right above the valve cover. Does the valve cover need to come off? Looks like it does.

Also where is a good place to tap into a switched circuit to power my fuse block relay? 

I'll be adding a powerlet outlet, a GPS, some Skene Photon Blaster front conspicuity lights and rear P3 aux brake lights, a set of Denali driving lights.

You have to take the tank off in order to get the covers off. There are plenty of instructions out there to remove the tank so I'm not going to get into it here. As long as you don't have a full tank then this is not too bad of a chore.

You don't have to but it sure makes it easier. The tank will likely need to come off to do the other wiring anyway...

Under the seat on the right hand side of the battery tray there is a two pin connector with a plug in it. This is a good switched power source that requires no cutting into the original wire harness.

It seemed to come off no worries with them on.

I haven't had my tank off yet, but there's one bolt in the rear.  Fuel disconnect is right there at back of tank.

I don't really think the plastic covers were really meant to be removed without removing the tank, hence your experience. But the plastics can be removed without removing the tank, as long as it is loose so you can get to the bottom two fasteners that are right above the rocker covers.

Thanks for all the help! I found a thread elsewhere on Wild Guzzi that explains how to remove the tank. I was just Ass summing that the panels had to come off first, but that is incorrect.

I am disappointed in the Owners Manual. It says nothing about how to change the oil, or air filters, just take it to an authorized dealer.

Are there some good on line sources for things like oil filters, air filters etc? In BMW world we have Max BMW and Bob's BMW to order on line from.

Search this forum for a link to the full V85 Shop Manual.  It's pretty lengthy ("that's what she said" - Huzo) and much more detailed.  I printed it out and put it in a binder.

If you can't find it here, AF1 sells the download for around $7.00.

I like to take the relay trigger wire to the low beam headlight power wire. That way it is a switched power source and if you bike has a headlight delay (headlight does not come on until the starter is pushed) it will not power the fuze block until the bike starts. Allowing more power to be avalaible for the starter if needed.

Lately I've really been diggin' the FZ1 Fuseblocks as they have an integral 30a relay and you can make circuits switched/non-switched by simply moving the fuse. They are also small and inexpensive around $89.00 new or around $35 on the secondary market.

I down loaded a service for my Audace for free. I don't remember where though. I don't like this kind of thing in digital form though, I find them to be too hard to use. I recently found an actual manual on eBay for $25. I ordered it and am very happy with it. I don't know for sure but I think the seller printed out a downloaded copy and had it bound. I am more than happy with it and it was well worth the price. He had a money back guarantee if not satisfied and not even wanting it back. I hope people aren't taking an unfair advantage.

I did finally find the V85TT shop manual at AF1 Racing. It was not listed anywhere that I could find it, but I took the part number off your picture of the shop manual and entered that and the manual came up. It was jut over $8. I downloaded it and an electrical wiring diagram.

Good deal.  My problem is when I go to the AF1 site to order an $8 manual, I end up with a much larger shopping cart and lighter wallet!  They have a ton of stuff for the V85.  I get my oils/filters from them.  Great customer service, usually shipped same day.
