98 EV passenger seat install
« on: May 18, 2020, 01:18:24 PM »

My 98 EV came with a Corbin seat which is very comfortable but the passenger seat area is smaller then stock so since I seen to have a lot of free times I thought I would mess around with the stock seat that Steve Rossi gave me. There are 4 brackets to mount it to the bike. The front two from what I can figure out mount behind the shocks, the rear look like they should mount on the racks mounting point but the slot on the seat bracket seems to narrow. Of course I think I have them on the seat correctly going by the marks on the seat. Anyone have a photo of under the seat? I'll take some photos.

Never mind. They mount to the outside of the shock and just rest on the rack mount.

On my Cal the front brackets mount outside of the shock, inside of the rack. Might be different on EVs.

Thats how these on my 98 ended up. Made sense once I got the mounts mounted correctly.

When you say they just rest on the rack mount, nothing just rests on anything. The rear mount slots into the back by loosening up the bolts that extend out into the rack from under the fender. The back seat is solidly mounted on all 4 points.

As for the shock location, I believe the brackets may be turned around. I don't recall needing to lift off the back seat to mess with the shocks. I **think** the seat bracket goes behind the shock but it has been a while so I could be wrong.

I did loosen the the rear rack mounts got zero clearance to slip in the seat bracketand the radius on the metal (not sure what to call it)part between the rack and fender was a perfect fit,so look right to me.The way you describe the front mounts makes sense . I'll have to check again.

Okay, I went back and looked at your pics. I think the front is right as long as the mounting brackets ended up in the same position on the seat as your first picture.

I am 100% certain the back doesn't simply rest on there. There are enough EV's out there that use that same setup that perhaps someone reading this could post a pic of where those brackets slot in at the rear.

ZoomZoom is correct,  they slip over the bolt that holds the rack in place, loosened up from inside the fender.
