Enduralast alternator kits
« on: June 12, 2020, 09:23:41 PM »
Anyone ever tried one of these?  The price is pretty reasonable, and it sounds like a big improvement over stock.  Here’s the link:

I installed the 450w brushless kit in my /5 about 5 years ago.  I think the same kit fits the Guzzis as they both use the same Bosch charging systems. Easy install and very well made. Good phone support as well.

I put the 450W PM system in my CX100, and I'm glad I have the extra power for heated clothing, but in hindsight after seeing how little power that old points bike actually uses, I'd be totally confident going with the system you're looking at.

One season my sensing signal wire for my R/R had inadvertently been pulled off so my alternator wasn't charging, I ran that bike for a whole summer as a total loss system, just charging it up at home, no problems, but all of my riding was in remote areas not requiring turn signals, lights etc. fwiw.

The 450W PM system is an easy install for someone knowledgeable about wiring & electrickery;

EME's instructions were a little vague for a MG newbie like myself at the time I put the system in, so when the instructions warned to ensure that the Red wires from the old system were disconnected and isolated, I took that literally and did a very fine job of completely disconnecting the chassis wiring power supply,,, much head scratching at the time  :violent1:

KiwiRoy solved that one and many others for me.

I like the aspect of the system you're looking at, because it's a straight plug and play replacing parts, it should be an easier install. EME has a lot of good quality parts, if you're thinking of any electrical/ignition/maintenance work take a good look around his site, get the system that works for your power needs, take claimed output levels with a grain of salt.

Good luck

I installed one on my old '83 850 LeMans III...it worked well and as advertised.  Thumbs up! :thumb:

As I recall, isn't the BMW rotor sized a few mm differently?

I've installed a few on both BMWs and Guzzis. Worn well, a few regulator/rectifier failures though.

Largely unnecessary, IMO, unless you're going to be using a full suit of heated gear (or two). A solid-state voltage regulator, large AGM battery and LED lights are easier and less costly.

Hmm.  What regulator did you use?

I put one on my '85 LeMans. The bike was prone to low battery constantly, even when ridden 100miles a day at 50mph+. This system simply cured all ills, including being able to run a 100w high beam headlamp.
Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread.  I bought an RMStator regulator/rectifier.  It has five wires going to the alternator.  The alternator, however, has six spade connectors.  I’m thinking that one of the spade connectors on the alternator must be a ground, and I’m thinking it may be the one labeled “Y” on this diagram:

http://www.thisoldtractor.com/mg_manuals/wiring_i-convert_civilian.pdf

Scroll down to the next to last page to see the alternator, which is #22.

Any thoughts?  The RMStator unit didn’t come with any instructions, and there are none on its website.

MPH installed one in my GSPD. The BMW rotor and diode Boards not very robust. My opinion. 3 failures in a 3 year period. Very happy. I think my Quota has the exact same set up. Just reliable.

After finding another wiring diagram for an SP, I think that “D-“ should be connected to ground.  Anyone?
