I’m replacing the transmission side engine crankcase seal. I’m aware that there are some new-fangled PTFE seals that you are NOT supposed to oil. But I’m assuming my new Guzzi seal is a conventional design, not PTFE, and I should go ahead and smear a light coat of of engine oil in the inner lips of the new seal when installing it.
I have no instructions or warnings that say not to oil it. What do I do?
This is a 2013 V7 Stone small block. I got the seal or what the manual calls the “gasket ring” from AF1 in Austin, part number 886365. That part number replaced GU 04000500.
The seal itself has a felt outer cover on the transmission side. The other side is labeled, reading clockwise:
