1969 V7 Special rear Light
« on: November 25, 2020, 01:44:20 PM »
The V7 I'm working on has a Twin-filament Bulb in the rear Light Unit, and the correct Bulb Holder, but only has two Wires to it (Black & Yellow).
Does it rely on the Light Bracket & Mudguard for the Earth return?
Black Wire goes to the rear Brake Switch, Yellow goes to the middle Tab on the Box behind the Battery (Voltage Regulator?).

Yellow is for the tail/running light, black for the brake light. Yellow goes into the main harness and connects inside the headlight. Or at least, that's the way it came from the factory... Earths/grounds through the bracket and fender/mudguard.

Thanks Charlie.
What is the Unit mounted near the front of the rear Mudguard, with the three heavy-duty electrical connections on it?

Thanks Don, thought so.
I've found a couple of Wiring Diagrams now, so should be able to sort it out.
Best bet I think is to run an Earth Wire back to the Light Unit.

You are welcome, make sure the regulator has a ground wire going to a good ground.  DonG

Yes, it has thanks, but I'll probably put a 'beefier' one on, as it's fairly thin.

Found the issue, Yellow wire has a break in it around the Battery Tray area, it was quite badly pinched between the Tray and the Mudguard.
I'm replacing the whole lot, and adding an Earth Wire too.

Nice to work on something with so few Wires, and they're all so accessible!

When I went through my 68 V700 I decided to upgrade the electrics of the bike with one of Greg Bender's marvelous wiring harnesses.  I also went one step further and installed Greg's Relay Solution.  The relay solution will prevent the possibility of any smoke event from the switches.   I topped it off with one of Josh Cole's much improved fuse panels.  The end result is perfect.

Nice job!
I do like Wiring, maybe I'm odd, but I find it quite 'therapeutic' (as long as everything's going OK).
If it were mine, I'd most likely rip it all out and do similar you yours.
Nice to see the Fuse 'box' made to look like the original.

I've just recently retired from my job as an Aircraft Engineer, I think I got my love of neatly laid-out Wiring from there.

We did a little wiring in our Apprenticeship, but not on that scale.
