38mm Marzocchi Forks
« on: June 25, 2025, 12:03:38 AM »
I just bought Dave Richardson's old 76 Convert. It doesn't appear to have been run in a long time. And I'm totally new to 'verts, never rode one - actually, I've never been interested in them though a lot of guys seem to really love them. The bike has (I was told) LeMans heads/pistons, 41mm Dells, F09s all around, 17" front wheel, and 38mm Marzocchis up front.

The main jet holder was sheared off, but the pieces along with float bowl came with the bike. I was able to remove the sheared off section from the carb easily enough and make that right.

Now I'm trying to figure out these forks. They're all in pieces and I don't know how they're supposed to go together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A parts diagram would be great, or a link to instructions.

One other question - there's an electrical connection on the underside front of the fuel tank. Nothing is plugged in there, but I'm curious what that's all about? I've never seen an electrical connection on a tank before.

I can't help you with the forks but the connection on the fuel tank is for the low fuel idiot light on the RH side of the dash. The light on my '78 Convert still works but was a little unreliable at times and after putting in LED indicator bulbs in the dash it seemed to be less reliable. My petcocks have been converted to standard manual petcocks and therefore the light is unnecessary in my opinion.  Most are probably nonfunctioning by now.

I'm sure others have better/other sources but you could check guzzitek manuals - link here for 78 convert relevant manual

Those 38 mm Marzocchi forks are likely the "Strada" series, that were sold as an upgrade for the Le Mans. I've never had a set apart, but I would assume that they're much like the Marzocchi forks on my Morini 350 and Ducati Pantah. Nothing too difficult. I do have the Ducati forks apart at present and can shoot some photos if needed.

Thanks guys. :-)

This Falcone is totally new territory for me. But it doesn't look too difficult to find my way around it.

Yes, Charlie - some pix would be helpful. I just need to figure out how they go together. It looks like there are youtube vids on rebuilding Marzocchis, so I'm feeling less lost all the time.

I have a set on my T3. They really improved the handling. I have a manual for them but dont know how to share on here. Mine are the model "S"

We are running Marzocchi 38mm forks on our race bike. According to Racetech, they are the same as Ducati 860GT. Here is a link to an exploded diagram, and a parts source as well. Also, Rachtech sells a cartridge emulation kit for them, its a worthwhile upgrade. https://www.ducaticlassics.com/parts/860-gte-and-gts/all/front-fork-marzocchi

Falcone?

Oops, sorry there. I got the convert and a 71 Falcone at the same time. Both killer deals I couldn't pass up. They both have front ends that need to be assembled.

Glen - is there anything I can do to help? I'd love to see your manual. Thanks for the link - I'll check it out.

Joe - Thanks for the diagram! Racetech cartridge emulator - cool! I've got one I never installed in a BMW. That's great if I can use it here.
