Cal III oddities?

Hi, all.

Looking at a Cal III and wondering if the stuff at the arrows is OEM?

At the top arrow, that looks like some plumbing hardware added in as a fuel shutoff?

At bottom, were the oil filters outside the sump? Any "Outsider" I've seen before has the filter either deeply recessed or oriented fore and aft. Is this another kind?

The outsider oil filter plate is probably from Harper Moto Guzzi, a well-known dealer in Missouri. The "fuel fitting" is most likely for an auxiliary fuel tank.

I didn't realize that Harper's made two versions. Sure enough, on the pre-98 model the filter is oriented vertically!

Agreed.  It appears the aux tank was mounted to the plate between the side cover and the shock.

Whoa! Good eyes! So the aux. tank has been removed but evidence remains!

The seller took this bike off the market.

It was not running, but he had no fuel pump whine on startup and figured that was his problem. He said he sold a Harley, which meant he had more room, so he was going to fix the Guzzi and keep it.

At least he's got his priorities straight!
