V,7 special engine management light

Hi
The engine management light on my 2014 v7 special is on.
When bike is initially turned on clocks go through normal cycle and all lights go off apart from ones that stay on , oil and neutral , then when engine is started and runs the cycle is repeated as though the ignition has just been turned on, except the engine management light now stays on. Neutal also stays on but oil light goes out working as they should.
Battery is fully charged, showing 13.2 volts without engine running, and around 14.3 with engine running , fuel pump seems to be running ok, bike seems to drive well, although not had a hard blast as I dont really want to risk doing damage,
am I right to assume the diagnostic connector is under the seat next to the battery? Does this need connecting to a pc or is it like some japanese bikes where you connect two wires and a code comes up on instruments?

To read diagnostics (and change maps), you’ll need the GuzziDiag software (free!) downloaded to a PC and cables. I think this is the most up-to-date tutorial thread from Beetle:

You can also go to the GuzziDiag website for the info:

Step 1 should be to re-set the ECU. Without Guzzidiag, just remove the negative battery terminal for, say, 15 minutes and reconnect. Try this. It may solve the problem. It may not. But worth trying.

Had battery disconnected overnight, initially the same, but after a couple of short journeys it now starts ok but immediately after starting the instruments go through the startup cycle, with alllights out, just received diagnostic cables so will check that as soon as i can get a chance to get it connected to laptop,

What SHOULD happen is the dash lights cycle with the ignition key turned on, then just the neutral light. If the lights cycle again when the engine is running, I would suspect a bad connection between the alternator and the reg/rec (a more common problem with the 2TB V7's) or a problem in the starter relay. 1st check is always your battery's charge at rest, then again with the engine running to check the charging.
Having a look at the starter relay is easy - remove the relay, take of the top from the base, & check the condition of the contacts with a magnifying glass. Replace the relay is any contact is not pristine.
It's always worthwhile using Guzzidiag with the cables - you can check the error buffer, you can check a lot of the functions & again with the engine running & at various rpm. (I have in the past identified a flat spot in the TPS using this - saved much grief).
Good luck & let us know how it goes.
