8v roller kit "c" arives
« on: August 05, 2015, 04:58:45 PM »
Got a call yesterday from my dealer that the roller tappet kit I ordered a week ago is in. When I placed the order the importer told the dealer it would be six to eight weeks. Obviously they must have a few of these around state side. I asked the parts guy to order any additional bits, such as valve seals and exhaust gaskets.   He said he would ask the techs what I would need as they have just done two of them recently. I asked if they were failures and he said no that they were done preemptively. People must love their 8v's as they are willing to spend a couple of thousand bucks to help ensure there longevity. I agree that it is a worthwhile expense if you want to keep the bike or sell it to a knowledgeable buyer. Part of me would like to install it immediately, but I think I will wait until winter when I have more free time and don't mind it being down for a couple days. I currently only have 5,000 miles on the griso and it is running fine and the gaps have been staying in spec so I will likely wait, at least until the map gurus figure out the fueling on the roller tappets.Would appreciate any advice one could offer on doing the job myself. I am mildly capable and eager to learn the inner workings of the 8v. When the time comes I will do my bests to document the process and share what I have learned.      dave

Good to hear.
Kit 'C' should come with all gaskets. And I mean ALL. You have to pull the heads and valve springs for it.

I'm rollerizing mine preemptively as well, hopefully next month. I have kit 'B', so my heads don't have to come off. I will update the Griso maps shortly thereafter.

It's not a difficult job but there is care involved. I have a couple of V7's to service and repair at the moment, (As well as a Griso waiting for a 'C' kit but I'll try and get round to doing a photo essay in the next few days.

The 'C' kit should include everything you need in the way of parts including the valve spring shims and valve guide oil seals. :thumb:

Many thanks to our friends down under. May the Griso gods shine on them! And Mark, your map is running so sweet it is the main reason I don't want to rollerize it until  I have to. It truly transformed my griso and helped convinced me to keep the bike and sort out whatever comes. Thanks again.  dave
