Flywheel timing marks, T3
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:42:04 PM »
About a year ago, I picked up, on ebay, a nice flywheel for my T3. I can't remember what bike it came from, but it's from something much newer than a T3. It has some little protrusions, which must be for some kind of crank position sensor. It has a D and an S at TDC, but no other timing marks. The flywheel is now on the engine, transmission bolted up, and I rigged a dead stop to dial in exact TDC with a degree wheel. The D and the S are dead on. While I have the degree wheel and pointer set up, I'd like to make some marks for static timing, idle advance, and max advance, so when I get it running again, I can dial it right in. Can anyone tell me where the marks should be, stock or not? My distributor is a T3 unit, the only non stock thing about this engine is 89mm bore and pistons. Thanks everybody.

If'n you have a T3 dizzy spring set up, your static timing is 2 degrees BTDC and your advanced is 31 degrees more at 33 degrees before top dead center.

The D is for "Dis side" the side with the window you are sighting through.
The S is for S'not dis side.

My lightened flywheel came without markings, so I put an L and an R on it...foolproof   :azn:

Thanks, that's what I needed!
