With a free quart of oil courtesy of Amazon I wandered out to the garage to effect an oil change. Last Fall I dropped the pan on the SP engined '75 Eldo and complained on this forum that they had changed the UFI filters from 8 flats to 12 making my fancy Stucchi filter wrench obsolete.
I was mocked! Mocked in this forum as a corncob chewing, suspender-snapping dinosaur with decades-old filters on my shelf. A quick comparo discovered that I had exactly one 8 flat filter left for the Eldo. I put it in and secured a new 12 flat wrench from the auto store. The Stucci wrench went into the cardboard box 'o obsolete tools.
My shiny new '13 Griso and I are headed to the Eastern Shore of Virgina to threaten some flounder with a rod, reel and frying pan sooo...
I got a new 12 flat filter off the shelf and looked at the date: 2008
I tested my new wrench and it was a perfect fit.
I drained the oil and tried to remove the filter, NFW!
I fished the 8 flat wrench out of the aforementioned cardboard box 'o obsolete tools.
Perfect fit and that sucker was on tight.
I checked the date on
that UFI filter: 2012!!! Figures...
I cleaned the bottom of the filter and Sharpied an arrow to mark its position so I can tell at a glance if it is unwinding en route. I will add the 12 flat wrench to my travel kit as a talisman to ward off leaks.
This is what a Griso looks like:
