El Dorado swing arm bearing race removal

Seeking advice on how to best remove the tapered races on my El Dorados swing arm. Swing arm is off the bike. Suggestions?

Use a blind bearing puller like this:



Hudreds of variants in the technical world.    Would be wise to state where you are located.  Might be someone down the road who has just what you need.

The races can be very tight, make sure you crank the blind bearing in real tight and use some heavy slams of the slide hammer.



Harbour Freight sells Bling Bearing puller kits or you can get them off Ebay for under $80 and they are also great for pulling wheel bearings.

AutoZone has a blind bearing puller for rent. $160 down and you get it back when the tool is returned. Best to use the Credit Card. And check for damage before leaving the store. You don't want to be left holding the back for the previous dolt. I have rented the tool three times now without incident. Made gearbox and wheel bearing removal a breeze

Surprised nobody has corrected the spelling yet, it was the first response when I posted about the Eldorado.

A heat gun can help, too.

Run beads of weld around the inside of the race. This shrinks it and it will then wiggle out.
Just don't weld it in there of course. A bit fiddly but easy with a steady hand.

I wonder if you could take them out hydraulically like you can remove a clutch pilot bushing (on a car)?  Pack the bottom of the hole with grease, and drive/press a slip-fit slug into the grease.  Pressure differential caused by the different surface areas multiplies the force and pushes out the bearing...  Heat first couldn't hurt.  I don't know.  Maybe worth a try.  I've used it a couple times on blind fit plane bushings.

Might work on the right side that goes into a "blind" hole just slightly deeper than the bearing. But, the left side isn't blind, rather a "cylinder" about 6" deep. Would take a lot of grease to fill that! 

A blind hole bearing puller works perfectly fine and if you can rent one, costs almost nothing. Doesn't destroy the (possibly reusable) bearing either.
