2013 V7 Stone Speedo not functioning
« on: October 21, 2016, 04:43:28 PM »
Any ideas?  So far I have cleaned up the plug and socket in the instrument cluster and no luck.  Is the sender the likely culprit?

You don't have many parts that can go south...and you have checked 50% already.  I'd take a close look at the pickup and also see if the wire has been nicked.

Clean sensor on left rear.  Points at back brake caliper.  Mine was dirty and caused speedo to peg at 140mph, even at stsndstill.

Can the sensor be cleaned without removing the rear wheel?

Yes.
Look at the back tire.  Side with the caliper and rotor.  Just above the brake cable you will find another black cable follow it back.  There is a bracket that holds the sensor.  The black sensor points directly at the bolts that hold the rotor.  I cleaned the side that points at the rotor bolts with a rag and some paint thinner.  Did not take anything apart just cleaned.  5 minutes top.  Fixed my problem.  Apparently enough crud had built up to affect the speedo reading.

Hope this helps.

It may also have just come unplugged where it joins the loom.

The sensor cable often rubs against the shift linkage by the swing arm.  Check that, and tie the cable to a nearby bracket to prevent further wear.
