removing water spots from windshield

I searched but couldn't find anything, so . . .

Does anyone know a method of removing water spots from a car windshield? It's not real bad, but when it's raining lightly, especially at night, the spot pattern appears every time the wiper blade passes. New blades don't help.

The driver's side outside mirror is also spotted very badly.

Soak the windshield with water mixed with a water softening agent (avoid getting it on the paint). After it's been on for a bit, scrub it a bit then rinse liberally with plain water and then dry it with a soft towel.

Water spots are almost always caused by dissolved minerals or stuff in the atmosphere drying on the glass. The wetting agent in the water softener will help re-dissolve that crud and keep it suspended until you rinse and dry.

I use "Bon ami" because it's softer than glass and takes off all kinds of shadows on glass.  Then you have to do-over the Rain-x.  (It's also what you could cut the kids loose with for bathroom cleaning and not scratch up porcelain, chrome, tile.)

I was whining about the spots left on my bike windscreen after a diesel truck "rolled coal" on me.  My sister suggested toothpaste.  I couldn't see that helping, but the screen was ruined otherwise, and she had the travel size tube of Colgate right there.  I put it on dry, buffed a bit, added some water, buffed more, let it dry to a film, and wiped it off.  hmmmm.  It cleared up.  Smelt minty, too.  Go figure.

A dab of Simichrome metal polish on a finger tip has worked well for me.  Great for buffing out scratches too.

Mixture of vinegar and water should do the trick. It works for me to remove the residue on the paint and windshield fron the recycled water of our irrigation system.

Those water spots can be tenacious, Bon Ami or Barkeepers friend will not touch the spots that have been cooked on by the sun. I use the cleaner used for Ceramic stove tops. It you have a buffer it will polish up the glass quite well also. They are all a Cerium Oxide derivative like this.

Glass polish. I use the stuff from Griots Garage with a random orbit buffer, but you can do by hand as well. Works really well.

Wax it when you wax your bike. Cleans and repels water when you get cayin a rain storm. I've been doing it for 40+ years on all windshields, never owned a bike without one

^^^ This.....and use old newspapers to wipe down with instead of paper towels. The newspaper will reduce streaking, if not eliminate it altogether.

Saturate a towel or paper towel with the vinegar/water mixture, lay it on the stains. Now go enjoy a cold beer, two if you'd like. Return to the stains and wipe with the towel, that should do the trick.

If the stains persist, have more beer!
