Wildguzzi.com - a lot of tips for old Calis
TPS Tip from Jeremy Ogden:
Here's a tip for California style bikes' TPS... 27271-95 HD (TPS) I checked and A dealers price is $126.00. They were happy that they could get one for $40.00.
Swapping Tip from Wildguzzi:
Here's some 15 minute TPS instructions I have sent to several people who have changed their TPS this way successfully.
1. Mark with a pencil, the line on the current TPS in reference to your throttle body.
2. Get a digital volt meter (analog will do no good for this application), set it to the lowest DC setting on there, usually MV.
3. Pearce the 2 outer cables that go to the TPS, and take the reading (ignition on).
4. Turn off ignition and pull the old TPS off.
5. Put the new one on, and line up the line on the TPS with the line you made on the throttle body.
6. Snug the bolts, but don't tighten. You'll still need to turn the TPS.
7. Rotate the TPS (key on) until you have your old reading. A hair width of a turn will make a HUGE difference. I used a screwdriver and tapped it until I found the reading. Its a picky booger.
8. Tighten the bolts.
9. Start the bike.
10. Take off.

here's an aftermarket supplier. It's supposed to be the correct replacement part, not the Harley one.

My experience is that I've had the Harley part fail and this one. I suspect there is poor quality control with all these replacement parts.

The TPS will come apart very easily. Take it off, pop the cover off and inspect. I found one I replaced to have the contacts bent on one tab and part of the other tab missing. How this happened, anyone's guess. Bike only had a 6,500 mile on it. It ran much better after replacing with the OEM part.
While you have it off, use a multimeter to test if the reading changes consistently and smoothly thru the range. It may just be dirty.

I changed it on my '01 Metal Stone many years ago. Worked like a charm.

And you don't need Guzzi Diag, just set the TPS for 150 mV with the idle stop backed right off so the butterfly is closed then don't touch it again.
Later when you set the idle speed at 1100 RPM it will end up about 400 millivolts.
Some procedures tell you to set the idle screw to give you the millivolts but it's really the idle revs you are setting.
Set the revs and don't worry what the mV is saying at idle speed.

I replaced mine several months ago using this one:
http://ca-cycleworks.com/pf3c
The TPS that went bad was a Harley...after replacing with the PF3C from CycleWorks my bike never ran better.
