Reproduction Moto Guzzi Tool Pouch
« on: March 25, 2019, 03:11:17 PM »
I am planning on reproducing the green waxed  canvas Moto Guzzi tool pouch that came with the 1972 ~ 1974 V7 Sport. Maybe this was the same pouch that came with the Loop frame bikes??

I have an original tool pouch that I have measured and made a pattern of and I have bought one square yard of "100% Waxed Cotton Outdoor Waterproof Canvas Fabric - 15 oz" which appears to be a good copy of the original fabric. I found a snap hasp kit online that has a decent assortment of snaps close in appearance to the original. I got the fabric online from Big Z Fabric www.bigzfabric.com - Item # 223394982974 - colour olive.

I am planning on talking to a tailoring shop to see what they will charge for sewing each pouch and what a bulk order would cost, using up the full yard. I plan on keeping three for myself and selling the rest if there is interest.

I am just trying to gauge if there is any interest out there for one of these, I hope to get them done for under $40.00.

If you are interested in one let me know.

I'd be innerested.

Pics of the original available to give a sense of what's in store, for those of us not fortunate enough to have seen one?

The tool pouch is app. 4" wide x 7" tall with a fold over cap that snaps to the lower body. the seams are folded over and then through stitched.

This is the pattern if someone wants to make their own.

What? You're not going to silkscreen the MG logo on it?

I have a couple originals.  One in green canvas, the other in a black vinyl "naugahide".  I "think" the black was loopframe, canvas was V7 Sport?  Regardless, both wear holes with all the tools packed in for so many years.

I am interested. I could use two. Thanks for taking on this project. I’ve seen one of these before, but as Cam said, holes get worn into the bottom from the tools rubbing over the years.

Mine has holes in the bottom from the tools as well.

I can fit 16 patterns exactly on 1 square yard of material, tomorrow I will go to a local tailor shop to see if they will take this on. I will sell them 1st come 1st served in order of who is responding here, hopefully I can get them sewn for a reasonable cost.

I will keep you posted

Cheers

The original is one tough scamp. Mine has been on many bikes since 1971 and is still usable. Guess I should put mine in the safe. lol

Thank you for the pic and pattern, Jim- your generosity is much appreciated.

The tool kit for my Sport was long gone when I got it.  I've had a G5 toolkit & pouch on the bike for many years.  Now maybe my wife will sew up a more authentic-looking pouch for me...

Thanks for the pictures Don!

Looks like Guzzi went upscale for the Loop frame bike tool pouch with the extra border trim.

I found a seamstress to sew the pouch for me, she should get 16 out of the yard of fabric, will take a week or so to make them.

I will have thirteen for sale, I am asking $35 USD + $10 shipping regardless of how many purchased.

Will conform once the order is done.

A couple of comments on your pattern:
The flap does not need the fancy cutting and folding. Just fold the corners and then the top.
But first: stitch the pocket inside out with a quarter inch margin. Turn right side out and stitch the pocket 1/8" from the edge and fold the edges of the flap and stitch them 1/8" from the edge. Then fold the flap corners and the end and stitch them. I don't know when the snaps go on; it depend on your snap machine and whether the snap is exposed on the outside of the flap.

Same here. I still have the original one in the toolbox of my 74 Eldorado, no holes and in good shape. I may think about ordering one of these, though, just so that I have a new one, when this one goes kaput.

I'll take one (1), and agree with others that you should somehow emboss the Moto Guzzi logo on it!!  That would be a nice finishing and unique touch, (IMHO) :thumb:

I want this batch to be stock copies, maybe on another batch if I decide to get more made, my tailor was kind of excited about making them, one of my sons' knows a screen printer that maybe could get silk screened logos

I would like to get some red waxed canvas to make a copy of the Benelli 650 Tornado tool pouch, anyone have or know where I could get pictures and measurements of a stock Benelli 650 tool pouch???
