2001 EV-Needs new battery NOW!

Wanted to go for ride on this beautiful day today.
Battery is toast.
Looking for right now replacement.
Defective battery is an Interstate Battery that was installed when I bought this bike used a few years back,
Looking at an identical Interstate replacement with one year warranty
or a Batteries Plus Duracell battery with a two year warranty.
Anybody have any reason to not buy the Duracell?

Stop.  Please don't buy another flooded cell battery.  Find a good AGM class that will last a long time.  I push 10 years.  False economy to go cheap.  There is a long list of technical reasons why you should use AGM class batteries.


This is not the cheapest around, but it might suit your immediacy needs.

Love my Odyssey 925 (T3 & EV). Never worry about using headlight to set up tent or everyone plugging their phone chargers into my rig for the night. T3 alternator died and I got an overnight charge from a friend. Next day rode the 150 miles home on the 925 box of sparks. That one is almost 10 years old. No acid burns on the paint even if left lying down.

Patrick - Thanks for the heads up on the need for AGM. I'm definitely going that direction. The Odyssey, International and Duracell that I'm looking at are all AGM for sure.
That Xtreme battery is close to $25 less than the Duracell, but only has 1 year warranty compared to 2 year. You think it's as good as the Duracell?

Can't go wrong with a Yuasa battery...comes dry with acid in separate bottle...the only way to go in my opinion.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions.
Living in Amarillo Texas doesn't give me many "right now" choices.
I went ahead and purchased the Duracell from Batteries+ since there were no negatives posted (in the whole of 2.5 hours since the original post-LOL).
I'll update this post when the Duracell dies so that we'll really know if it was a good decision or not...

Almost 10 years on the 925 in the T3.

If left for the season and it needs a trickle it goes on a Battery Tender Jr. The few times it got run down it got hooked to whatever home charger was available. Still working fine.

Maybe their specialty charger can pack more amp/hours into their battery. But my charger can pack enough amp/hours into their box of lead to do the job.

I did add the 14.4 regulator to the T3 to accommodate the battery's capabilities.

I don't know why anyone carries an open bucket of sulfuric acid under the seat of their bike any more.

If the battery doesn't work, your bike doesn't work.   If the battery leaks, it eats up your bike.

If you have to have a battery TONIGHT, I'd do this:

1) Go to any cheap store and buy a cheap lawnmower battery.

2) Also tonight, order the Odyssey or any other good AGM battery from Batterymart or any reputable supplier.

Put the cheap battery in your bike and ride it like that for the two days it takes the AGM battery to get there.  Then take out the cheap acid bucket, recycle it, and install the AGM and ride it and don't worry about acid eating away your chrome, plates shorting, sulfation, etc.   The price of the cheap battery for two days is peanuts compared to getting towed home and corroding the battery box out of your bike ....

Too late for the cheap first, better later/soon route.
The Duracell Ultra AGM that I purchased should be a quality battery.
I did get to ride today and that was a beautiful thing.

Batteries Plus.  They got tons of batteries there.  Usually open on Sunday.

Stay away from Cycle Gear house brand "lifetime warranty".

Everlast $21.95 and last as long as any other battery. In fact I just bought one yeaterday for the Zero turn.

I've had back to back Deka sealed batteries failures. Bought one it lasted for about a month then failed. Replaced under warranty and the replacment failed in a couple days. 3rd one worked like a charm.

Battieries are a crap shoot.

Never had a bad Deka/Big Crank and I've installed over a dozen in my and customer's bikes. I have had a bad Odyssey (oozed around the terminals), Yuasa (worked for a week then didn't) and Interstate (lasted less than a year).

I would never buy: any flooded cell battery if an AGM in the same size was available, any battery that I need to add acid, any battery that vents out the caps. Fine for cars, trucks, tractors, lawn & garden equipment, but my motorcycles deserve better.

Just to jump in here....  Im sure most of the listed batterys you are all talking about are the bigger battery right? My 02 stone has the smaller one then most because the canaster takes up half the space on the battery tray. Do they offer all of these in the bigger, and smaller sizes?
