I bought this as a "barn find" in Nov. '17 and have been slowly rebuilding it since then. It ran for the first time on Wednesday, I rode it about a mile yesterday and today was just supposed to be a short ride. Headed over to Jefferson to gas it up and it was running so well and feeling so good, that I just kept on going. 100 very enjoyable miles later (despite the temperature dropping 15 degrees and a very stiff breeze) and it's doing exceptionally well. Very pleased.

Ready to roll.

View of the valley near Ellerton (near Myersville). You can see Harp Hill Rd. snaking up the hill. I was planning to go that way, but the dark clouds sort of changed my mind.

The Hub City Model A Club was out for a cruise. We crossed paths several times.

Down along the Potomac River and C&O Canal near Sharpsburg. The river is still up and flowing fast.

Hey Charlie, Looks sweet, very tastefully done. I followed your build on fb quite closely, but I forget the details on the exhaust, it has a real classy vintage look to it.

What make are those cigar tip mufflers and how do you find them, weight, quality, baffle, sound and performance?

Ride the rubber off those rims,lol.

The exhaust is what was on the bike when I bought it, and according to the original owner (I'm the second owner!) it's what was on the bike from new. I have no reason to believe any different - the mufflers have all of the correct numbers stamped into them.

In some applications the "small hole" mufflers are too restrictive and strangle power output. That doesn't seem to be the case with the V700 though, maybe because of the smaller displacement. They're fairly quiet, yet still have a nice, mellow rumble. Perfect for a "stealth" bike that will spend time roaming around on forest roads.

I manage to squeeze in about 10k miles of riding each year, it's the only thing that keeps me (mostly) sane.

The paint is 30+ years old and shows all of the "patina" it's earned since then. I left the Ft. Lee decals because that's part of it's history.

I purposely set this bike up as close as possible to my trusty old '69 Ambassador - the bar-end signals and mirrors are the same items. Emgo Hella replica signals and Bikemaster mirrors.

The shocks are also Emgo, meant for a Triumph. They work pretty well. I bought them mostly because they're shrouded and I wanted to "backdate" the looks a bit. If I decide they're just not working or they crap out, I'll strip the shrouds off and put them on some better quality shocks like Ikons.

Thanx for the pictures, Charlie They're wonderful, but. Not Rob't E. Fulton* or Thomas Edison invented everything. The steamboat claim has always bothered me. Perhaps it was the depiction. A twin stack, big smokin' stern wheeler on the Hudson. I didn't get around much as a child. Although I cannot read the monuments' message I have an add-on to the bucket list, including the RR station. I'll be in the area mid May. Thank you

Some information about James Rumsey: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Rumsey It's interesting to note that Rumsey's design was a crude "jet propulsion" design, not a paddle wheel or shaft driven propeller.

It seems Fitch beat Rumsey by a few months, but his was a "paddler" vs. Rumsey's "jet". If you're in the area on the 19th, "Classic Motorcycle Day" at is at the Mt. Airy VFD Carnival Grounds that day.

Beautiful job on that bike Charlie! I like the overall "vintage" look , and how the paint/seat/shocks, ties it all together.

Fantastic pics showing the scenery in your neck of the woods. Its nice to see some water, and greenery. Everything out my way is "brown".
