Unbelievable dealer advert.
« on: May 07, 2019, 09:15:45 PM »
I came across an ad for a 2012 1200 Sport 8V from an Australian dealership. I can't see how to post a link but if I may quote " Excellent condition. Originally new from us when we sold this brand, full service history with us. We're unsure if the motor has been rolled (sic), determining this is a cost and would equate to an increase in the selling price. "
WTF !!

Motorcycles R Us , Underwood QLD.
I sent them a very polite email advising them that it takes 5 minutes to pop off a rocker cover and have a peek but of course they already knew that.
Apart from that they sold the bike new ( when they were Guzzi agents) and have serviced it but still have no idea if it's been rollerised. Even I know that every 1200 8 V Sport left the factory with flat tappets.
I don't have any personal interest in this but some unsuspecting buyer who is not informed will probably buy it and ride around while it slowly digests it's tappets or get hit up with an unexpected bill if it's not already too late.
Bike has covered 16800 km.

Paul, at the moment 8V’s are asking big money but they aren’t getting it.

My mate Peter sold his, rollerised, low mileage, mapped, all the remedial shit done, for about $10K from memory and it had two tanks, bags, centrestand etc.

Michael sold his Griso, probably the best one in Oz, with suspension work, mapped, rollerised bla, blah for $10.5, might of been more, can’t remember.

An unrollerised Sport? Would have to be $8K absolute tops but I wouldn’t pay more than $5K. If it’s ‘Service history’ is from this mob of shitgibbons you have no idea what has or hasn’t been done! Sure it’s low miles but it’s still a flattie and who knows who ‘Tuned’ it?

It’ll need an ‘A’ kit. That’s $1,500 right there before installation then there will be the other stuff needs doing.

I see two INCREDIBLE things here:

1. Incompetence and self-contradicting ad (bold)

but on the other hand

2. They fully admit the damn things would NEED to be rollerized. (underlined)

In 2014 I was in the market for a new bike. The closest Guzzi dealer was this mob. I took there V7 demo for a test ride. It had a bad vibration through the handlebars and did not appear to run as well as it should. I was currently ridding a Nevada that I had for the last 12 years so knew that this may not be the best example. I tried to get a ride away price with a center stand fitted. I was at the point of walking out the door as I thought the salesman must have forgotten me when he finally come back. He couldn't give me an exact price but told me it would be probably a bit more than $15000 and showed absolutely no interest in selling me a bike.

I was still interested in Guzzi so rang the next closest dealer who was a couple of hours away. I got told their Guzzi salesman was on a few weeks leave and if I rang back in a month he should be able to see if I could take the demo for a ride and get me a price.

Neither of these businesses are Guzzi dealers any more and I think I dodged a bullet by this dealers complete lack of honesty and integrity. I could not believe their attitude, I had cash in the bank and approval from the minister of finances to spend up to a higher limit.

Wow.... "Full service history" and "we don't know if it's been rollered"

If they're the same ones who have done all the service... don't walk away... RUN!

When I bought my Guzzi, it was on consignment at a shop. The owner didn't know what if anything had been done to it. I took a photo of the VIN before I went home. Asked you guys here, got told to contact a good Guzzi dealer and have them run the VIN. Easy-peasy, few minutes on the phone and I had answers. Called the shop and asked for them to get the owner available that weekend. Went, talked, rode, signed papers, exchanged cash, loaded her on a trailer and came home. The owner had all the papers for the lifter and clutch recalls that had been done, on top of the VIN stating that it had been done, and verified because you guys here showed me pics of what to look for.

I love my Guzzi, love motorcycles in general, and love having the hive mind here that I can ask questions. That and the fact that our bikes seem to be built so the average Joe can maintain them... it's a wonderful thing.  :thumb:

I'm interested in obtaining a 8V bike in the $5-$10K range for a winter rebuild project that I am always threatening to start.
I even cleaned out the shed area over Easter and broke away from a life time of hoarding to take two trailer loads of "I may just need that in the future" Sh*t to the tip

I'm not too fussed about age, kms, aesthetics and being non-rollerised as I would be looking to rebuild the motor and transmission if required.

SWMBO is slowly coming around to the idea  ... need to sell a few other hoarded items first  :thumb:

The way I read the advert is that they want the potential buyer to pay to see if it is rollerized and if it is the price might go up even more.  They are looking for the gambler.
