V7 iii USB
« on: May 26, 2019, 05:26:11 PM »
The V7 ii has roughed in wiring for a USB connector, it talks about it in the manual, off one of the switched fuses.
Very handy for a GPS or charging a phone.
I took a look around the bike but I cannot see where the USB jack is to be located, can someone please enlighten me.
Thanks in advance.

Someone with a III will be along later, but I thought the III had it hidden under the seat. The first 1TBs had it hidden under the facia beside the top of the LHS fork.

I believe what you are looking for is on the rear break side by the battery cover

That bike has what looks like a USB just in front of the side cover, not on mine unfortunately however I found a spare 2 pin connector under the side cover just next to the battery Positive terminal (about where it says V7), seems to be the right one, comes On with Fuse 5 as it says in the manual.
Also right there is the roughed in Bluetooth connector for cell phone link, missing the expensive part of course.

Thanks for that, saved me pulling the bike apart.

Just a quick reminder to all - when installing a USB charging port, ALWAYS check that there is a drop from the bike's 12v to 5v somewhere, either in the USB plug you are connecting or elsewhere. Don't assume you are getting the lowered voltage from the bike's existing connectors or wiring without testing...

Plus one on that :thumb:
I usually use one of those plug in adapters just tear it out of the plastic package it comes in leaving the converter and socket to tape up.
The headlight bucket is a good spot to keep it dry and a convenient supply is the park (city) light.

Manual says my V9 USB (top front frame) can only be used with Apple I Phone, Apple NANO, Blackberry. "Do not use with Motorola".
I have a Samsung; better charge it at home?!

Connector is hidden under battery cover like Kiwi_Roy described. Switched and fussed.
I just bought one of cheap 12V to USB converters + connector for few bucks on eBay

Conector is 2 pin female "Superseal" type (it was hardest part to find what put into google search :violent1:)

Yes those are good, I have one if only I could find it but they don't turn off with the key.

True, but if you remove it after every ride and plug in the tender you'll never have an issue.

Funny enough my new V7 came with an SAE connector, I thought those were only add ons.

On the V7ii, the GPS lug is right behind the headlight, wire tied to the bundle. Not sure on the iii.

I also have one of these which works great too. Plug the lead into your tender port. I use it on longer trips when I need extra USB power.

Funny enough my new V7 came with an SAE connector, I thought those were only add ons.

If the dealers prep the bikes for test rides they usually add the connector so they can maintain the battery until the vehicle sells.  If they only prep the bike for the sale or for the "I'll buy contingent on the test ride", then they might not add it.

All my bikes are plugged into tenders between rides.  I've had batteries last 10 years that way.  I've had batteries fail because of bad cells as well so there are no guarantees that using a tender will solve that or make the bike start every time.
