How tall is too tall?
« on: June 03, 2019, 08:30:28 AM »
Hey all! I have had my Griso for 6 years now and love it.

A California Jackal just came up for sale at a price that's too good to pass up. Only thing, on cycle-ergo the bike looks tiny. I am 6'3" and wondering about how I'd fit.

I was thinking of messing around with it and putting rearsets and a no sweep bar on it eventually.

Looking to see what everyone's thoughts are here.

Have you sat on it?   You'll have to judge if your knees are too high or not.  Raising the seat foam would be a consideration.

Im 6'3" also [6'3" 34+" inseam, and 250lbs] and just picked up a Cali stone..  so pretty much the same bike. I wouldnt say its tight.... It really fits quite well. the lower bars on the Jackal and stone really open up the space a lot. That being said, when I ever get around to getting a new seat, I would really like to go a inch or two taller, and maybe moving the hump back the same.. But really...  its not bad at all. My legs clear the heads fine.. not really cramped at all to speak of.. the little extra sadle hight would be nice though.. So I say got for it. I like mine.

I’m 6’6”, I don’t fit on a Gridinskylpp very well, tank splays my legs.  I was able to get comfortable on a Cal Bass’s, I’m sure you can make one work for you.

6' 4" 36 inseam here. I have a raised custom seat and dropped pegs on my Griso. I did the same on my Jackal using SP 2 hangers and controls. They bolted on so rearsets from almost any Tonti frame should work. The stock seat is like sitting on a barrel. Not recommended.

Know a bloke who got hold of a wrecked Cali - a Jackal, I think. Clip ons, rear sets, Jota tank, so he will have done something with the seat. But he's a Laverda guy, tall, thin, built like a rail, so comfort is relative. Works fine for him. Had a photo of the early stages of the transformation, but haven't been able to find it.

If your knees block your view of the road when on the pegs you are either too tall or you must lower the pegs a little.
If you ride like that you will be farting into the wind, not recommended.
