Kudos to Guzzi for their new ad...

We don't need sex to sell our bikes. In fact, if we did that, what would happen? Our machines might become popular and outstrip our manufacturing ability, and then where would we be?

Call me out for the misogynist bastard that I undoubtedly am if you will.  I'd far, far rather a scantily clad, buxom, curvaceous bikini-girl in her full flush of youthful feminine appeal ANY day of the week to be lasciviously draped over my type of bike!  I like girls more.  They just look better than we uglier half of the species.

The reality of a somewhat too-tightly form-fitting leather-clad male 'model' similarly artfully draped, especially an over-generously remunerated pretty-boy movie actor is just a tad too confrontationally homo-erotic for my delicate sensibilities.  Unless of course there's a 'different' specific sub-culture target market for this particular campaign.

There's already an innate inherently implied phallic symbolism associated with motorcycling anyway.  In the same manner as racehorses, ICBMs, tall skyscrapers, slender powerful speedboats and ejaculative long-barrelled firearms & artillery pieces have.

The whole concept of paid celebrity endorsement also leaves me with a rather bitter after-taste.  Who ends up actually paying for said actor to tell us or even merely imply just how wonderful his or her newly-endorsed consumer product supposedly is?  Usually it's us mug punters.

At least the fellow actually rides bikes I suppose.  The fact that he's paid to do so also finds me (to be honest) as jealous as buggery!  Maybe that's the REAL truth behind my alleged discomfiture?

I suspect Ewan is such a Guzzi fan he is doing it for free, or almost so.  He has been riding and singing the praises of Guzzi for decades.

Us men tend to think it works that way, but it doesn't.   Men are "visually" oriented when it comes to sex; women are (generally) not.

It's why you often see gorgeous women hanging around with fat, ugly, nasty old dudes, and not the other way 'round ...

I hope that if Ian and Charlie come to Piaggio asking for Guzzis for their next adventure ride that they are smarter than the fatheads at KTM were.

I too am secure in my manhood, that's why I refer pictures of naked women, with or without  bikes, to picture of any man..

I suspect Paggio has already made that offer to them.

Uh……. didn't you forget a "rich" in there somewhere?

That's often true, but sometimes the really nice girls are hanging out with penniless rednecks.

I've asked women (my wife included) that are smart and who understand these things and are willing to talk about them WHY IS THIS?    A woman who could have any of thousands of decent guys with money and no criminal record, hooked up with a cussin', drinkin', potentially abusive 'neck with a coal-rollin' pickup and a 14 x 70.

And the answer is ... Adventure!   Risk!   Something Different!

Draping some metrosexual over a bike in an ad ain't gonna do nothin' for the average woman ...

Adventure, risk, something different?  Mostly BS from what I understand.  Damaged self esteem, among other damages perhaps the root cause of their wants.

Could be.  I only know what the "experts" tell me.  There's a chance that they're biased.

Ewan’s endorsement and love of Guzzis is great for the company. If you don’t respect him as a rider, you should watch the two Long Way shows. If he does the 3rd show on Guzzis, it’ll be an excellent promotion for the brand. Sure, he’s a lucky, overpaid guy. But why resent him? He’s a real rider who is passionate about Guzzis.

Personally I don't care anything about the person posing, just as long as they stay out of the way of the bike!

I dunno.

Why use a male model, when there are plenty of beach babes that would love to pose with a motorcycle ?

Ewen is quite the Guzzi supporter.  He signed the top case of my Stelvio when he rode it in a Cisco commercial.
