Dr. John has passed away at age 77. I lived in New Orleans for many years and saw him perform quite a few times.

"Right Place, Wrong Time" was his biggest hit, but for me his best two songs were "Such a Night" and "I Walk on Gilded Splinters."
RIP, Mac.

The REAL Dr. John is the only one I know. I have a so-called retired Dentist/ neighbor. He donates nearly 30 hours every week, sometimes week ends to the disenfranchised. A few summers ago he spied my Daytona. Although I ride around here on Guzzi's and others the only one that grabbed his attention is the Daytona. He got a kick out of the history. His wife is from Philly. Go ahead on Dr. John. Thank you & good fortune. How is the restoration going? (ancient query). R3~

When merely 16 I landed in his band as drummer. They were all older than little ole me, and all into stuff I was basically "frightened" of. I learned plenty! Mac & I remained in touch until bout a year ago when his health went south and we did get to visit a few times in recent years as his daughter lived near us. He was a colorful character & an early influence on my musical career. I wasn't with him long, as his band was pretty much changing personnel weekly back then. I expected this and will miss the old guy.

if he would have rode a bike, it would have been a Guzzi...probably an Eldorado. Good tunes, good vibe, good juju.

Saw the Good Doctor at the Blues Fest Tent within the Marin County Fair back in 1984. He sounded like a million bucks but health wise did not look so good. Years later I saw him perform again at the now defunct SF Blues Festival, he had lost a bunch of weight and had quite the spring in his step. Music was great as ever. Godspeed , Dr John.
