Jeez, I remember when some self promoting loud mouthed Antipodean suggested that, and was roundly criticised .
I said that if the 750 was the V7 and the big one was the V9 then do a homage to the LeMans as an 850 and call it the V8.
Half the pricks here were calling for the death penalty, so I asked would it help if I changed my last name...!

Well maybe if you were a pro-podian, the other half of the pricks would be all into it!

Always been interested in the road concept variations of the V85, but I've never been a fan of the black stripe on the the top of the tank - a tank bra is one thing, an imitation in paint is just ugly. But for that, this one is just fine.

Never been happier.
This is what I was talking about with the “why won’t they do it ?” Thread.
A stand off look alike Le Mans with a worked V9.
Without trying to be oblique or wordy...
How does it differ from what I suggested ? The Griso in the MGS was a different but similar conceptual exercise.

That is beautiful. And I see it is the work of Oberdan Bezzi!

Looking at it again, i think the seating position looks ok. I'd have to buy it.

I wonder if this is the next step -- after that Italian racing program using Lemans-like V7's -- in launching an actual Lemans V85.

Why not build it?

Moto Guzzi already has the platform, just needs the shiny bits. Would make a nice halo bike, as well as paying homage to the legendary 850 Le Mans.

It may not sell in the same numbers as the V7 series, but it would get som attention from the Moto mags.

Why not build bits of photoshop bashed together? Its got 1400 cali heads on a small block motor the swingarm looks like its for chain drive, oh and half the reply's to this thread have said they are too old for clipon's. They don't have a  platform for this bike what on earth are you going to base it on? the V85TT? or the V9 roma with its 1970's suspension and geometry?

Id really like to see a new LM built on the v85 platform..  Jump on the fact that the first was a 850... and with MG's 100th coming up...  This one pictured is a little off...  as was said, but the concept is good. I wouldn't just slap a V7 tank on it though...  I think it needs to be about 25% scaled up to look right. Closer in size to the old LM v7S tank. They will never sell a ton of them...  But as a draw to get people talking..

Siiigghhhhhhhhhhhh. ...Oberdan Bezzi, last I knew, doesn't work for any motorcycle manufacturer.  He releases concept drawings all the time much like I post my children's photos on Instagram.  For some reason, every time he releases a drawing everyone goes crazy and assumes it's a Guzzi or Ducati(or whatever brand that appears in the drawing) approved concept.

Nah. They're V85 heads which probably means the rest of the engine and gearbox are just photoshopped in.

Also, if everybody is wanting a bike to 'Celebrate' the 100th anniversary why pick one from forty five years ago? Using that sort of logic they should build a flat single with a rigid frame and girder forks because that's what they did 100 years ago!

See the odd thing is if they went with modern water cooled  fuel injected chain drive flat single supermono/ huskie vitpilen style now that is something I'd be on  board with.

Flat single is pretty stupid apart from some sort of 'cosmetic' thing. All it does is add wheelbase to fit the silly cylinder in. It made a lot of sense back in the day but from a modern engineering viewpoint it's bonkers!

I dunno what Guzzi, (Read Piaggio.) should do but none of their present ideas have any merit when compared with the 'Opposition'.  Perhaps they can drag the miserable smallblock platform out far enough to cone up with a really good electric. Yeah, I can see Piaggio doing that.

Short oversquare bore and skinny enough tyres it will still corner like a cylon interceptor, Huseaberge for a while had a slanted cylinder something about they decided the gearbox was heavier than the crank so they put that at the bottom (modern dirt bikes don't have much in the way of flywheel!), admittedly they didn't stick with it too long. As to a cosmetic thing would it be much different hanging onto air cooled architecture from 50odd years ago just because.

I still think there are a couple of bean counters in Piaggio that would be more than happy for Guzzi to be turned into solely a store front.......... for a line of red T-shirts and other related tat.

Siiigghhhhhhhhhhhh....Oberdan Bezzi, last I knew, doesn't work for any motorcycle manufacturer.  He releases concept drawings all the time much like I post my children's photos on Instagram.  For some reason, every time he releases a drawing everyone goes crazy and assumes it's a Guzzi or Ducati(or whatever brand that appears in the drawing) approved concept.

Bezzi is an independent designer who makes his living selling design services to manufacturers, according to every evidence I found on the internet. I believe he did the prototype for the Italjet/Longjia Buccaneer I bought.

My evidence for the latter belief is this series of steps:

1. He posted a design drawing of the prototype in the same portfolio that you dismiss as laughable.

2. A CAD drawing of the same design can be seen on a computer screen in a video of the CEO of Italjet, Massimo Tartarini, apparently in his Italjet office.

3. The same design was built and displayed at EICMA as an Italjet.

So this is one case where there is strong evidence of a Bezzi design being built. It is the only case I investigated.

What about the other designs in his portfolio? Were they all built? Of course not: They are a design portfolio intended to get him new customers.

Has he ever sold his services to major manufactures? Yes: There is a long list of clients in his portfolio [EDIT: in his resume, not the potfolio] several of them major manufacturers.

Did he make up that list of clients? No, because it would be bad for his future business to be caught lying about past clients, and the motorcycle design business is a small world where his lying would soon be known.

Bezzi is clearly in the motorcycle business as an independent designer, as his website says, and as the case history of the Buccaneer demonstrates. We are looking at a design portfolio intended to illustrate his talent, not a manufacturer's product catalog.

What you, or motorcycle ezines, or their other readers make of his portfolio is not his business. Design is his business, and he seems successful at it.

I guess it is pointless to make this argument again. But I see no justification for comparing his work to your posting your child's pictures on Instagram.

I certainly don't go crazy every time I see a new design by Bezzi on the internet. But I recognize him as a professional designer, and give him a little respect for that. So, I think, should you. But of course that is your business.

Do you have any evidence that should change my opinion of Bezzi?

Two thumbs down.

I do not recall that. Can you point to the design? Here is his portfolio:

https://www.coroflot.com/Obiboi/portfolio

All you need to do is select the appropriate photo, copy its link, and paste it here.

For example, here from that portfolio is his design drawing for the Italjet/Longia that became the Buccaneer, after substantial improvements:

I'm gonna have to disagree with the general consensus....

wrong frame for that tank and fairing

look at it side by side with an original lemans and you might see...

the tank and the fairing sitting too high for any real visual harmony

Why missing? The work?

Working is right.   6/10s to 7/12s currently.  Current project is supposed to be a 58% completion, a month ago was at 24%.  Currently at 43% bench mark is now 63%.  Weather has been hammering us up here.  Even the ducks are tired of the water. Looks like this until August or September.
