Strange Noise - 2015 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone
« on: June 19, 2019, 07:51:44 PM »
Hey everyone,

New to the forum so please let me know if this isn't the right place to post this. Just wanted to pick your brains and see if you can identify some of the strange noises coming from my 2015 v7 stone, the high pitched noise seems to have come out of nowhere. I just bought the bike 2 months ago and I've done around 1500-2000 kms since I bought it. Sounds normal at idle and it doesn't seem to make a difference whether the clutch is in or out. The high pitched noise comes in at 3k+ rpm.

-in this video I get a high pitched whirring

-in this video it sounds like something is grinding

Welcome to WG..
I've chased my share of "noises."  My first thought is vibration related. Maybe a fairing rubbing, or exhaust.. something like that. Maybe some V7 guys will chime in.

I once had the heat shield on the exhaust get loose, and it would make quite a racket at certain rpms.  Just had to tighten down the two screws.

My guess is throwout/clutch release or pilot bearing. Had a car that made that exact noise. Drilled a hole in the bellhousing and shot lube on it once a week.

It almost sounds like a bad alternator bearing, but unlikey on your V7.

Probably not much help, but I have the same 2015 V7 Stone (gotta love the red) and I don't have that particular sound.

I do have the dry clutch rattle at idle but not the sound(s) you seem to have.

Where are you located?

Did you buy the bike from a Guzzi dealer?  If not is there one close by?

Gerry

Maybe it an anti tip over valve vent, could it or another fuel vent cause it?  I don't know how that bike is plumbed so I'm just throwing that out there

Have you had issues with keeping your clutch cable properly adjusted?

On my 2007 Nevada they used two flats on each side to hold out the horns. One broke, creating a buzz, rattle, or screech depending on rpms. I wasn't looking for it when I found the broken bit...its used to mount the horn behind the rect/regulator behind the down tubes.

Do new Guzzis still use a mechanical tach?  Dry cable?

check the heat shields and have you been re torquing the header bolts. might be something in exhaust hitting the frame.
