Bagged Eldo 1400 success!!!

So, I've joined the "Factory Hard Bagged Eldo 1400 Club"!!  Pretty simple actually.  The main side brackets go on perfectly, it's just the rear brace that needs to be modified a bit, but very simple.  Only needed 3/8" spacers in the front of the side brackets to move the bags enough to clear everything.  I had read 3/4" spacers were needed but 3/8" did the trick.

The kit came with galvanized clips to put on the brackets themselves, for screwing in a bolt from inside the bags to secure them to the bracket.  I didn't use these.  I put together my own simple nut & bolt package for attaching the bags to the brackets.  I did this because I wanted to be able to quickly detach the bags from the brackets and head out leaving the brackets in place.  Those galvanized clips would have looked horrible.  Oh, I removed the reflector mount from the side brackets as well.  I added a pic of the side brackets installed without the bags (less the rear bracket at that point).  They don't stand out at all. 

Also, I drilled a hole in the rear bracket, and a hole in the metal section behind the license plate and attached them together with a nut and bolt (all hidden of course).  Why?  NO MORE REAR FENDER SHAKING!!!  Perfect opportunity to solve that issue. 

One other thing, as everyone has stated regarding these bags, they are in fact a slight metallic black.  VERY slight, you can barely see it.  I'm pretty picky with my OCD and planned on getting them sprayed Gloss Black like the Eldo but honestly, I'm totally fine with it.  I've had several people look it over now that I'm done and nobody has noticed. 

I think they work great for the Eldo and pretty happy with the finished look.

I hope for your sake they have fixed the water leakage problem. On my 2013? 1400 Touring, I had to drill holes in the low point of the bags to let water out or my stuff would be floating in water after a ride in the rain.

Looks fab on that bike just like it should have come that way.  I really need a set for my Custom, but have been reluctant to make the investment.

Also, I drilled a hole in the rear bracket, and a hole in the metal section behind the license plate and attached them together with a nut and bolt (all hidden of course).  Why?  NO MORE REAR FENDER SHAKING!!!  Perfect opportunity to solve that issue. 

I discovered the reason for the rear fender shaking while installing the factory rear rack. There is a metal brace underneath the fender that attaches to the big metal bolt in the middle under the seat, and two smaller bolts that secure it from underneath on the sides at the back of the main frame. By the time I had discovered the culprit, one of the mounting tabs under the fender had broken off as well. A good cleaning with rubbing alcohol and some JB Weld, reattached that to the underside of the fender. Once the support brace was tight and everything was reconnected, the fender was secure even before putting the side brackets back on. ( I made this discovery during installation of the rear rack.)

While having a conversation with a dealer during the Virginia Rally, it was brought to my attention that there was a service bulletin about the loose fender issue.

As for the bag brackets stabilizing the fender, yes they do, but the underlying trouble ought to still be addressed. As an aside, I also left the rubber bumper off the top back spot since it caused the fender to bulge out there and I figured that might be bad in the long run.

I have been through some really hard rain fro extended periods of time and the bags have kept the water at bay. I have noticed several setups on various 1400's where the lower front bag mount bolt had been overlooked by whomever installed the bags. It's easy to miss and will let in mucho water.  Something worth looking at on any 1400 equipped with bags. Look for the bolt with a fender washer low in the front of the bag. (This is the one I have seen missing a couple times.

Ya, I had looked into that issue as well but mine had all boils tight and no breakage, still shook more than I liked.  That one new bolt fixed it pretty well. 

BTW, thanks for your previous pics and writeup on installing these bags on the Eldo, made things a bit easier.
