Drats! I have at least 4 years to go before I can join my wife in retirement..To you - Enjoy!!
I retired at a time when I was a bit nervous about "Is it time yet? Have I got enough yet?" but I went anyway. Turns out I had nothing to worry about (at least the past 4.5 years is going well) and I gained 4 years of life-time vacation as a result.Just a thought. "I wish I'd worked longer" said almost no one ever.
From Lannis:Almost the same time span and initial concerns that you experienced. Loseening up the purse strings some now and having a great life!GliderJohn
Yep. On my way to England this week for 10 days to ride a BSA around the country and attend the BSA Owner's Club International Rally, then when I get back, a week at Topsail Island beach with the family (North Carolina). No worries about "getting back" in time for anything, how long to stay ... it's great.Lannis
Are you coming up to God's Own County (known to southerners as Yorkshire)? If so, pm me and we can maybe meet up.
I roamed Derbyshire and Yorkshire on my last trip there on my BSA 650 A10. Seven of us on old bikes started in Liverpool (after dark due to a late ferry), rode up over the Cat and Fiddle around midnight and through Bakewell to our camp at The Plough Pub in Two Dales. Then we had a mooch around Matlock, then up into the Peak District, and over to Doncaster and our local guide got lost in an industrial estate in Goole. We spent three days camping in Ulleskelf near Tadcaster, and rode as much of Yorkshire as we could.I was real happy to get to ride down Greenhow Hill to Pately Bridge, which any Kipling fan will understand, we rode the moors around How Stean Gorge, we rode too the North York Moors. I was amazed to find not only 1 in 4 hills, but one 1 in 3! How the clutch on that two-up BSA survived I don't know, but it did.We had to get back to Kent eventually (well, I didn't, but the rest of the unretired crew did), and we rode to the east of Leeds and Doncaster and then points south. This go-round, we're starting in Chatham, riding to the south of the M25 in the country but going near Guildford, Basingstoke, and Oxford and end up in Morton-in-Marsh, in the Cotswolds. I don't think any of the rideouts will take us much farther north than that, but there'll be 400 or 500 of us there, so if you happen to be looking for a place to ride to .... !Lannis
The Outer Banks never disappoints, it is truly one of my happy places Had a ball, ingested tons of great seafood, and witnessed a beautiful thunderstorm from our balcony on the last night there.
