Help finding Idiot light sockets
« on: August 10, 2019, 11:40:54 AM »
I must be spoiled with the BMW on-line parts fiches because I can't seem to find parts I need. And then when I do find something the parts number isn't linked to anything. Moto International was great - no problem there.... until they closed.

Right now I need two of the idiot light sockets that were used on the early small blocks, maybe the T3, and for sure on the LM1000. It's black with two normal size spade terminals, accepts the push-in tiny bulb with two dangling wires folded over, and measures 8mm diameter.

Where can I find these things?

If you need to keep everything stock
Otherwise I suggest you glue in LED lamps and just solder the wires direct to the lamps
I have done several 2000 era bikes that way, the lamps should outlast the owner.
Type 194 are 12 Volt available in several colours
You would need a shunt resistor for a Bosch alternator or generator and also for the low fuel lamp

You have to be careful with modern lamps in old sockets the base connection can short out because of the contact orientation.

I found those already and even though I'm not positive on those at SD, I do know the MG Cycle socket is 11.9mm not the smaller 8mm I need.

I was considering that option, Roy - just might be the way to go. Right now I only need two for the turn indicators, so don't need to worry about the charge light.
