A rough statistical analysis (this is Norman math, I get to make the rules), counting mixed preferences as half scores and with arbitrary rounding, comes out something like this:

2% half helmets

24% three quarter helmets

74% full face helmets

Modulars were either ignored or counted as full face helmets.

Complaints regarding statistical techniques may be forwarded in PM. A complaint processing fee will apply.
Lol Norm, I ain’t seen this done before on here but darn good idea. Im in the 2% category, is that a bad thing😂

I think it's just fine right up until ... well, let me quote my volunteer fireman roommate at the scene of a motorcycle / telephone pole fatality ...

" It was low speed - He'd probably have been okay if he was wearing a full face helmet."
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason for the outcome of a motorcycle accident. Ive investigated two MC  fatalities where the riders were wearing Bell helmets, one full face and one was a 3/4. Go figure.

3/4 for me. I have 4 vertebrae fused in my c-spine. My peripheral vision has been reduced due to lack of movement in my neck. A full face is too restrictive for me. After the surgeries I put my AGV full in the trash. I guess if I ever crash I'll be taking it on the chin and that's a risk I'm willing to take.

I ordered my 3/4 fiberglass helmet today. It was a difficult decision on the color issue as they had several to choose. All my helmets over the past few years have been flat black or white, for visibility purposes (white). However I’m changing my image from my evil HD past and getting more guzziest. I went with  titanium (grayish)

This one..(I’ve got two of them..)
I sometimes look at the 120 km/h 1/2” grit belt sander whizzing past my boots and wonder if I really need protection over my face and chin..
I always end up with the same answer... :bike-037:

And no, that’s not me..(there’s a story as usual)

Round up the usual suspects !

I saw a helmet once that was donated to a traffic school instructor by the surviving occupant - it was ground off about 3/8" on the temple. Made a believer out of me. The previous owner said he remembered hitting his head seven times before he lost consciousness.

I began riding with 3/4 helmets over 40 years ago, moving on to full face for several years after that, mostly to keep my face warm. But, since I used to wear glasses for most of my adult life, I found that I was destroying and replacing my glasses more often than helmets every time I put a full face on; my glasses were always more expensive to replace than helmets.
So, it has been 3/4 type helmets for the last 20 years, with a short clear visor and an internal sliding dark visor. Quite a few models out there are available in this design. I also have windscreens/ fairing on all 3 machines.

Wore 3/4 helmet for years until I saw someone who went face down with one - not pretty. Been using full helmets since and modulars for the last 5-6 years. Will be switching to an ADV style helmet to get the broader field of vision soon. Maybe the Scorpion ADV modular if it fits well.

45 years 3/4 helmet with sun visor, you can't put a sun visor on a full face helmet. Also I  like the wind in my face and I find I can hear and see  better, more aware of whats going on around me.I do have one full face I use on occasion ,rain or very cold.

No one here will argue that the open face helmet provides acceptable protection for the sides, top and back of your head in a crash..
Why do the devotees of open face, feel that your face will not be removed in a front on crash ?
If it were legal to do so, would you ride in a full face helmet with no back ? One would think not because you’d remove the rear of your skull in a trip down the road.
Where does the reasoning lie, with the people who take a fatalistic attitude towards the prospect of sliding face down on a road at 100 km/h ?
The remnants of teeth, jawbone, nasal cavity and eyeballs wiped along a section of highway, would be a tasty feast for the waiting crows or other opportunistic scavengers..
So not everyone loses I guess.
Also the reasoning for adopting open face helmets because you were having to buy glasses due to the fact that you hadn’t worked out that putting them on AFTER you’ve donned your helmet is the way to go, is quite frankly infantile.
Did I read that this guy favoured cheaper open helmets because he got tired of buying new glasses ?
He won’t need to wear glasses if he removes his nose in a crash because there’ll be nothing to rest them on..!

Full face.

To each his own.

To your point Huzo, I responded to a motorcycle accident where a high dollar Bell racing helmet was removed from the  deceased rider. However to your point my friend, his face was  unscathed.

Yeah mate.
You’ve seen more than I ever will and I understand that amazing incidents can occur in isolation. I also allow that it’s everyone’s choice. We ride bikes because there’s an element of danger or we’d all go and buy a Hyundai Getz and live forever.
It’s when you base your decision to go open face, so as not to have to buy new glasses...?

What I find even more astonishing is the numbers of cyclists in alien jurisdictions that wear no helmet at all!  Not even small children!  Not even in urban areas!  Talk about abysmal parenting, let alone the appalling example it displays and the risk to life involved.  Even a simple tumble over a car bonnet or curb can easily kill without cranial protection.

Parents won't allow their children to walk to school any more, yet routinely let them loose on a bicycle amongst city traffic without any basic PPE at all.  Lock the callous, irresponsible bastards up I say.  Like voting, it should be mandatory:  not just for the intelligent, mobile & informed, but for lazy idiots, the handicapped, scumbags, no-hopers, vagabonds, chavs & bogans too.

I've always worn full face, especially when going at higher speeds and longer distances, which is 90% of my riding. If I rode like a LOT of the Harley and Boutique guys (no judgement) into town to go to a restaurant or the weekly gathering, I might consider a 1/2, but normally I am out on the road, at speed, even when 'commuting' and have never wanted to risk it. Though the MGX screams "wear a half helmet'.... we will see....

This would be the perfect Full Face Helmet to go with your bike.

I hear ya KD, times has changed. I can remember as a kid we rode back from the fields sitting on the tailgate of a pickup. We worked the fields in the blazing sun wearing just shorts not realizing we would get skin cancer later in life. We drank from the garden hose and at 16 I smoked camel non filter cigarettes which were known as humpbacks. My first issued bullet proof vest was comfortable after I removed the Kevlar panels from the vest (probably not a good idea). Change comes slowly to some and some still reserve the right to make their own choices regardless of what others think.
Now back to which type of helmets we prefer. 👍
