SAE to Cigarette Lighter Plug
« on: September 30, 2019, 06:16:13 AM »
I was thinking about getting one of these for the other half's v7, in case she wanted to charge a phone/headset on long rides. It plugs into the battery tender port. Any danger in using one just for phone charging?

I use one.   Phone charging is pretty low current, don't see how it could hurt anything .... ?

I've used both, the cigarette lighter version to power a small tire compressor, and the USB version to charge a phone. Best to have both I'd say! There is also a voltmeter (you can get to it from the same link OldMojo used)

The normal cigarette lighter outlet does not 'capture' the male lighter part.  It's all too easy for the two parts to vibrate apart.  I'd recommend using a BMW style (also sold by Powerlet) which will lock the two parts together.  https://www.powerlet.com/shop-by-product/power-outlet-kits/SKTKIT

Why not use one of these and skip the cig adapter?

+1 on the battery tender adapter, its easily stored under the V7 seat, they are much more robust than those cheap ones you see at the checkout counter.

I bought 6 to get free shipping and sold the others to friends at cost.

Cycle gear also sells this little devil. I installed it under the seat and then ran a HD braided USB x lighting cord up to the Ram mount on my handlebar to power my Iphone. 10,000+ trouble free miles in all sorts of weather.

+1 on the Powerlet kits. On my bikes, including the 2 V7s, I run the Powerlet rear set kit at the pillion footpeg, AND an SAE plug at the handlebar & plug in the USB adapter when required.. The handlebar one is useful for power to the phone when using the GPS app - need power on, otherwise the battery goes flat a mile away from your destination. I run both straight off the battery, often charge the phone & iPad overnight while camping - not enough power drawn to have problems starting next morning. The only time I did have such trouble was when I recharged a 6000mAh power bank overnight at a rally - there wasn't enough left to start the V7, but the power bank was full, and it's jump start feature worked. My conclusion is phones & tablets just don't take enough power from the battery to cause problems. If you've got a phone, it's pretty much a no-brainer.

Another one you might consider is this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7Q214H/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07B7Q214H&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNDBKUk9MRk0yT0omZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAyODg5NzYyUVhZVDZFUElYQko0JmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NzgxNjcyTEVFSTdYTEcxOURUJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I don't know if there are different brands of this, but I bought one of these, or something just like it, from the Guzzi dealer and put it on the 1400. Wired to the battery so I can charge things without the bike running. (Which is usually when I need to charge things.) I have devices that need both plugs so it works out great.
