2016 V7 ll / Recalls and known issues
« on: October 15, 2019, 11:48:04 AM »

Hello!
My 2016 V7 ll Stone ABS has right around 10.5k miles on it. Outside of checkups, it has had some issues for sure.

- Leaking front brake reservoir
- Clutch actuator replacement
- Final drive leak.

Right now it's in the shop for the bottom 2. I know that (on Guzzitech), there are all common issues. I'm curious what the community here is going through?

I've got 32,000 miles on my '16 Stone, which I purchased in May 2015.  The only mechanical issue I've had was a leaky front brake reservoir cap, and a swap-out for an updated version (actually, it was an earlier version) fixed it.  The only other warranty claim I had was new fork side reflectors.  The originals fell off because the powder-coated fork tubes weren't correctly prepared for the stick-on reflectors.  Problem fixed.  The bike has been remarkably trouble free over the 4+ years I've been riding it.  Maybe because I do all of my own servicing.

Other than a new engine (courtesy of Moto Guzzi) because of the dreaded clutch/thrust bearings issue, I've had no issues.
But I still have low mileage, so there's still time.

Hello, at 56k km (35k miles) on my V7 II, these are the issues I had over the last 4 yrs:

-leaking front brake reservoir
-leaking rear drive
-leaking alternator cover
-pressure release bolt on rear drive functioned two ways (instead of just letting pressure out it also let water in tainting the transmission oil) so had it changed last week.
-right cylinder leaked some oil (had it re-torqued last week), although the shop apparently re-torqued it during the first service.
-had to change the clutch cable twice b/c it snapped. Ended up changing the clutch lever and the cable seems fine now.

Despite these minor problems, I am still loving the bike. It  seems to work better with time.

3 years and 17000km.
Leaky master cylinder cap. Removed, cleaned, dried and Resealed, OK.
Leaky rear drive, the whole unit replaced by Piaggio a month out of warranty at a bit over 2 years old.
A small bit of negotiation went on with the rear drive as I have serviced this bike myself.
In this case I was very well backed up by the dealer (Scooterazzi, Wellington NZ ).
A little weep of oil around the wiring on the alternator cover, solution, clean it now and then.
Replaced 1 valve adjuster screw that was stretched during the factory assembly and this made it difficult to set but it tightened up OK and I purchased a couple of adjusters and replaced the damaged one at the 10,000km service.
As far as loose screws go I have only found the exhaust header bolts have loosened and I have tightened them a couple of times.
Overall it has been a very enjoyable and capable bike, just the thing for a little old man like me.
Cheers, voncrump

25,000 kms on mine.

Replaced reservoir cap with earlier V7 version and problem gone.

Leak at alternator cover bothered me, so off came the cover, and I sealed it properly.  That was done when the bike was almost new (2016) by me because I didn't want it to start leaking again...and it hasn't.

Good point on the header nuts - I torque them every season and they do loosen up.

Hey Lorengo, I know you ride that thing in the rain (and snow), so you should pick up a Motion Pro cable luber from Fortnine along with some Red line cable lube.  Just did mine and it works good.  I got the one with the 2 clamp screws on it to give as better seal over the clutch cable jacket.

jpv7,

Will do. Thanks for the tip. The reason my clutch cables snapped (they snapped around the lever) is that the lever was faulty somehow. It was rubbing against the housing. I changed the lever for a short adjustable one and have not had any problems again. Will try that red line cable lube contraption to keep the cables in good health. cheers.

2016 V7II Stone, 10,800 miles.  I had no issues during the warranty period.  I have had an intermittent oil/trans fluid leak.  It comes and goes in terms of leaving drips on the garage floor, but it currently seems to have stopped?  There is oil seepage at the seam between the engine and transmission case that has been there from early on.

Seems like everyone has the front brake reservoir leak.  I guess I do too, as there is a small amount of fluid evident at the seam between the reservoir and the cap.  Is that what constitutes a leak?  I have noticed it but never gave it much thought.  What is the best fix, earlier version of the cap? If so, which version and where can I get one?

Most of my problems where dealer related.
Of course leaky master cylinder cap.
Had leaks at my cylinders( dealer didn't retorque) changed out gaskets retorqued been great ever since.
Clutch cable was to tight. Caused squeal readjusted. Been good so far. Redline grease on cable original cable.

Had minor alternator cover leak top screw. Rethreaded loc tite and presto no leak.

Rear wheel sensor went bad. 10 minutes fixed after narrowing it down with some hair pulling.

Starter went bad. Rebuilt been great
35000 miles my every day ride solid bike love it.
V7 ii for the win

What are the symptoms of a bad rear wheel sensor, please?  I just left the house Saturday when the rain started, so I turned around and headed home, the ride was less than 5 miles total but all was well with the bike, near as I could tell.  Now I find my traction control is activated and the ABS light stays on.  I can turn off traction control per the manual and the bike runs fine.  Thanks!
