Stock CalVin seat
« on: December 26, 2019, 06:47:05 PM »
I’ve finished the floorboard-to-peg conversion and have acquired a set of tubeless spoked wheels.  The last improvement to the CalVin should be the seat.  Any opinions on the Corbin CalVin seat?  If that’s the way to go, I’ll need to order pretty soon if I’m to get it by spring.  It looks great on the Corbin site, but the price is ahh — high.

There are a number of ways you could go with an after-market seat for your CalVin: Sargent, Corbin and the like.  Have you talked to any of the upholstery shops near your home?  There are some truly talented people out there working in small shops and willing to created something special.  I have had one seat customized by a local shop and it fits me great - especially for those longer rides into the Sierra Nevada range - and saved myself a bundle.  Oh yeah, if needed the shop is willing to make whatever changes or improvements I come up with.

I have one of the new Corbin's on my Vintage. It is firm, but well-shaped and was very comfortable on a recent 650 mile weekend. The two disappointments were (1) the rider portion of the seat takes away from the pillion section's length, limiting passenger comfort, and (2) the leather seating surfaces require conditioning to resist water saturation in the rain. Neither of these issues are significant for me (my wife only accompanies me on short trips), so the saddle has been a great acquisition. I also have a Sargent seat, but it is not quite as comfortable as the Corbin.
